Position Summary
The Conveyor Superintendent is responsible for the overall performance of the 5.2 km overland conveyor system transporting ROM coal from the pit to the coal processing plant at the Quintette Mine. This role provides oversight of conveyor operations and maintenance to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient performance in support of site production targets.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Conveyor Operations & System Performance
- Provide oversight of day-to-day operation of the overland conveyor and ROM systems through Conveyor Supervisors.
- Ensure conveyor systems operate safely, reliably, and efficiently to support production targets.
- Monitor system performance, availability, and throughput; identify and implement corrective actions where required.
- Ensure operational standards, procedures, and controls are consistently applied.
- Support development and execution of short- and medium-term operational plans.
Safety, Environmental & Risk Management
- Ensure a strong safety culture and compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure all conveyor operations and maintenance activities are conducted in accordance with site procedures and legislation.
- Review incidents, near misses, and equipment damage; ensure investigations and corrective actions are completed.
- Identify operational risks and system deficiencies and ensure timely resolution.
- Reinforce safe work practices, effective communication, and hazard awareness across conveyor operations.
Leadership, Planning & Continuous Improvement
- Lead, coach, and support Conveyor Supervisors to strengthen leadership capability and operational effectiveness.
- Set performance expectations for supervisors and review results against operational and safety objectives.
- Support workforce planning, scheduling, and coverage to meet operational requirements.
- Contribute to budget adherence and cost control within the conveyor operation.
- Support training, development, and succession planning for supervisory and operational roles.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on system reliability, efficiency, and productivity.
Education, Experience & Qualifications
- Valid BC Mine Supervisor Certificate.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in a mining or heavy industrial environment, with direct experience in plant operations and/or conveyor and materials handling systems.
- Minimum of one (1) years demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.
- Proven ability to support site management and contribute to operational planning, scheduling, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations, policies, and best practices within a mining environment, particularly as they relate to conveyor and materials handling systems.
Technical Competencies & Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to ensure effective coordination, safety compliance, and clear direction to crews.
- Proven leadership and team-building abilities to drive performance, accountability, and safe work practices among the team.
- Ability to foster a positive, safety-focused culture grounded in teamwork, integrity, and operational excellence.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to quickly learn site-based maintenance and reporting systems (e.g., timecards, vacation requests, and leaves).
- Effective time and priority management to navigate dynamic operational needs and respond to unplanned events.
- A proactive leadership approach that motivates crews and supports the achievement of safety, production, and maintenance goals.
Wage and Benefits
Conuma Resources offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. The Conveyor Superintendent position provides an annual base salary of $140,000 – $150,000, depending on experience, along with monthly efficiency bonuses, quarterly retention bonuses, and a performance-based bonus.
Benefits include paid vacation and personal days, 7% RRSP matching, and 100% employer-paid extended health and dental coverage.
