The Role
As a Cook at Dewey’s Restaurant and Bar, you will be the driving force behind our kitchen operations. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will prepare high-quality hot and cold foods, maintain a spotless workspace, and help create an excellent dining experience for the campus community.
Duties and Responsibilities
Food Preparation: Prepare and present dishes using standardized recipes and portion sizes. Read and execute daily prep lists.
Kitchen Operations: Perform all opening, closing, and food preparation tasks efficiently. May have to monitor and guide other staff in food preparation, presentation, and service as needed.
Quality & Efficiency: Proactively seek opportunities to minimize waste, increase productivity, and boost revenues without sacrificing food quality or service standards.
Inventory Control: Conduct inventory counts, monitor stock levels, and prepare order sheets.
Health & Safety: Maintain rigorous sanitation standards in alignment with Alberta Health Services. Adhere strictly to cleaning schedules and maintain a safe work environment at all times.
Team Support: Perform other job-related duties as coordinated by the Operations Manager.
What You Bring (Qualifications)
Experience: At least 2 years of relevant cooking or culinary experience.
Education: High school diploma (or equivalent).
Certifications: Willingness to obtain (or currently hold) an Alberta Food Safety Certificate.
Skills: Strong ability to plan, organize, schedule, and coordinate your workload. Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with staff, students, and the general public.
Resilience: The ability to remain calm, focused, and professional in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
Physical Demands: Capable of lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), standing for extended periods, twisting, and bending. Excellent work habits and a clean, professional appearance.
Schedule
Hours: 15 to 30 hours per week, based on operational needs.
Schedule: Primarily Monday to Friday, with the potential for additional hours on weekends for special events.
