The Corporate Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting for the organization’s corporate functions. This role supports the integrity of the general ledger through preparation and posting of journal entries, reconciliation of accounts, and execution of month-end and year-end close processes. The position supports budgeting, forecasting, and compliance activities, while providing analytical insights to finance leadership. Additionally, the position collaborates with business partners to deliver insights that drive informed decision-making.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supports monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process activities, including preparation of journal entries with supporting documentation, performing monthly variance analyses, and reconciling balance sheet accounts based on financial close checklists.
Prepares various working papers on a monthly and/or quarterly basis for internal reporting and for the use by external and internal auditors.
Communicates with key stakeholders across the business to understand transactions and ensure appropriately accounted for.
Coordinates receipt of information from across the business to complete financial close.
Ensures appropriate documentation is retained and that working papers accurately describe transaction.
Prepares monthly analysis of spend against budget and works with business partners on internal presentations and reporting requirements.
Communicates with external and internal auditors as required to discuss processes and transactions.
Completes other ad hoc tasks and requests as required to support the overall finance team.
Assist with preparation of annual budget and quarterly forecasts.
Other corporate accounting functions as required.
Qualifications
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in finance with strong understanding of accounting.
Business degree with major in accounting or other equivalent.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including of a detailed technical nature.
Demonstrates strong attention to detail and has a proven ability to quickly learn new applications, processes, and procedures.
Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple assignments.
Effective time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently as well as with a team to meet individual and team goals.
Ability to effectively diagnose and troubleshoot problems and opportunities as they arise and refer to manager and other stakeholders.
Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills;
Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
Proficient with Microsoft Excel, including use of formulas and pivot tables.
Proven ability to quickly learn new IT systems, applications, processes, and procedures
Experience with JDE (E1), ReportsNow, or Prism would be considered an asset.
Experience with public company reporting requirements, including knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (“IFRS”) an asset.

Working Conditions
Office Environment (Halifax preferred but option to work out of our Lunenburg office). Company policy is a hybrid work arrangement with a minimum of three days spent in the office. In-office days are decided by each individual employee.
