About the Program

Foundry is an integrated youth services (IYS) initiative for youth ages 12-24 throughout British Columbia (BC). Foundry removes barriers and improves care pathways for youth by supporting co-location and integration of existing resources and services for five core streams: physical and sexual health, mental health, substance use, peer support and social services. Located in Surrey City Centre, Foundry Surrey Central serves a diverse and growing community and is committed to accessible, culturally safer, youth- and family-centred care.

• Office-based position, not eligible for a remote work agreement

Position Summary

Wage Grid 23 ($41.56 to $43.42 per hour)

As part of a multi-disciplinary, integrated services model, the Clinical Counsellor will provide brief intervention counselling services for youth aged 12-24 and families experiencing mild to moderate mental health challenges utilizing Foundry core clinical modalities. The Clinical Counsellor provides intake, assessment, and crisis intervention to participants of Foundry Surrey. The Clinical Counsellor will establish supportive and trusting relationships that reduce risk and promote positive choices within a stepped care model. The Clinical Counsellor may support the Clinical Supervisor in the coordination of allied health services offered by Foundry Surrey, ensuring the seamless delivery of core service streams. They may act as a resource to staff, students and inter-professional team members, facilitate effective problem solving and promote collaboration. The Clinical Counsellor participates in team and/or local committees and internal and external case conferences.

Responsibilities

• Provides intake screening, assessment and treatment to Foundry clients as part of an interdisciplinary team.  


• Provides individual, family and group counselling using therapeutic techniques depending on client need, within the Foundry Integrated Stepped Care Model and using Foundry core clinical modalities; Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT).  


• Provides crisis intervention and support to youth and their families/caregivers.  


• Collaborates, consults and refers to service providers both within the Foundry and community to provide services to youth and families/ caregivers.  


• Maintains clinical records, data requirements and statistics and provides reports to the Manager 


• Accompanies clients to meetings and appointments when necessary and appropriate.  


• Supports Clinical Supervisor and site Manager to coordinate the development, management and provision of clinical service and programs.  


• Provides clinical/case consultation to other service providers, students and interns at the centre. 


• Provides education to clients, families/caregivers and other professionals. 


• Participates in committees, task groups, continuing education and community initiatives as appropriate 


• Carries out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements. Immediately reports unsafe situations by notifying supervisor or other appropriate personnel.  


• Performs other related duties as required. 

Knowledge & Competencies

• Experience working with youth, young adults and families across the mental health and/or substance use continuum including experience with interventions and evidence-based treatment modalities.


• Skills and experience in crisis response areas, brief solution-focused counselling, mediation and conflict resolution


• Group facilitation and cultural competency in working with diverse populations including Indigenous youth and families


• Demonstrated knowledge and application of trauma-informed and culturally safe principles of care.


• Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Acts, pertinent regulations, policy, procedures and other statutory and certification requirements (such as the Mental Health Act; Adult Guardianship Act; Health Care (Consent) and Care Facility (Admission) Act).


• Ability to work effectively with others in an interdisciplinary, multicultural environment, including understanding the frameworks of other disciplines.


• Knowledge and understanding of resources in the area to ensure effective community referrals
