Job Description - Course Lecturer - LING 445 - Fall 2026

Course details: Introduction to foundational ideas in computational linguistics and natural language processing. Topics include formal language theory, probability theory, estimation and inference, and recursively defined models of language structure. Emphasis on both the mathematical foundations of the field as well as how to use these tools to understand human language.

Teaching Schedule: Tuesdays, Thursdays, 1:05PM – 2:25PM

Course Start/End Date: August 31, 2026 - December 4, 2026

Contract Dates: August 31, 2026 - January 5, 2027

Salary (current rate for 3-credit course teaching): $11,479

Salary (rate for 3-credit course teaching as of September 1st, 2026): $11,824

Position Summary:

A Course assignment includes all or part of the following teaching activities:

a) preparation of the Course and Course plan; 

b) delivery of the Course; 

c) evaluation of students; 

d) submitting to the University a report on student attendance and student grades; 

e) supervision of Teaching Assistants or any other teaching support staff; 

f) upon request, review of students’ grades; 

g) meeting with students, being available to answer questions and give advice concerning Course content and requirements; 

Employees shall perform their duties in compliance with the Pedagogical Regulation and as specified in the administrative directives of the Hiring Unit. An Employee shall use appropriate pedagogical methods and material.

Teaching Qualification Requirements:

Successful completion of at least PhD Evaluation 1 or equivalent experience.

Experience: Classroom teaching experience through previous employment as Teaching Assistant or Course Lecturer for at least 120 hours, or equivalent.

Other: For current graduate students, CGPA of 3.7 or higher.
