Commissionaires Great Lakes (CGL) is a private, not-for-profit organization founded in 1925 on a mandate that prioritizes providing meaningful employment for veterans and others committed to the well being of Canadians primarily in security guard and related services. Spanning Central and Southwestern Ontario, our services are customized to respond to the dynamic and evolving security needs of both private and public sector clients. These include uniformed guard, mobile response and support services, by-law enforcement and identification services.

We are currently seeking a Commissionaire to join our growing team. This posting is for an existing vacancy.

WHAT OUR EXCEPTIONAL COMMISSIONAIRES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

• Safely cross school-aged children across municipal roadways


• Use a regulated STOP sign and other safety equipment as directed by the client and site supervisor


• Report for duty when called upon by the site supervisor, to provide relief coverage for regular crossing guard


• Be prepared to report for relief duty at any of the city's designated crossings


• Perform daily safety check of crossing location when assigned


• Observe and report any incidents or conditions that present a potential safety hazard to the children or guard


• Be available for calls to cover crossings as assigned, based on site needs


• Perform any other duties as assigned.

WE ARE EXCITED FOR YOU TO OFFER US:

• Prior to being offered employment, candidates must successfully obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check from their local police department, as well as a hearing test, and vision test (if they do not possess a driver’s license)


• Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather climates and in high traffic areas


• Must be able to properly wear and use all safety equipment necessary for the duties assigned


• Must be able to stand and walk at a quick and steady pace for up to 1 hour at a time


• Must be able to hold a sign weighing up to 5lbs, with repetitive up and down movement.

*Please note that this is a seasonal position.  Crossing Guards work according to the school schedule, and therefore will not be expected to work during holidays, PD Days, or when school are closed ie: March Break, Summer Break, Christmas Break, etc.

As a front-line representative of our company and client’s site you must be highly reliable, work well under pressure, able to work with minimal supervision, have the ability to multitask and be a professional who takes pride in your dress, deportment and performance at all times.
