As a cultural journalist with Radio-Canada, you will provide daily coverage of events and issues related to cultural and artistic life in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. You will work across digital platforms, radio, and occasionally television. The selected candidate will be responsible for covering cultural news in its broadest sense, including its social, identity-related, and economic dimensions.
You will be expected to demonstrate clarity, depth, and rigor while adhering to CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices. Creativity and originality are also essential in proposing ideas and innovative approaches to content storytelling.
In this role, you will report to the Senior Manager, French Services, Radio-Canada Abitibi-Témiscamingue.
Work schedule: Monday to Friday (9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.). However, hours may vary depending on production needs, including mornings, evenings, and weekends.
We are looking for a curious, dynamic individual who is comfortable presenting live journalistic content and who values teamwork and maintaining a positive work environment.
More specifically, you will:
Monitor current events using a variety of sources.
Build and maintain relationships with sources within cultural and social communities.
Pitch daily news stories, features, interviews, and in-depth reports.
Research, gather, assess, and verify all elements related to assigned topics.
Provide on-site coverage of major cultural events.
Plan your work schedule in collaboration with the assignment editor according to coverage needs.
Use available digital tools to integrate content elements (text, graphics, audio, video, photography, and/or interactive components) according to project requirements.
Produce visual content (photos, illustrations, icons, etc.) adapted to multi-screen platforms in line with Radio-Canada’s graphic standards.
Process, handle, and digitize various file sources.
Propose editorial angles.
Script reports, perform audio editing, and provide narration.
Write content adapted to multiple platforms (radio, television, and web).
Deliver information through various formats (articles, clips, segments, reports, interviews).
Present reports on air.
Notify newsroom leadership of events that may require breaking news coverage or special treatment.
Ensure required production resources are available for your assignments.
Drive a reporting vehicle.
Perform any other related duties necessary to carry out the responsibilities listed above.
Job requirements:
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Three (3) years of journalism experience or equivalent
Skills:
Strong general knowledge
Excellent knowledge of current events in Abitibi-Témiscamingue
Excellent command of French (working language)
English (an asset)
Strong knowledge of media-specific communication techniques and interviewing methods
Knowledge of video production and editing techniques
Strong initiative and autonomy in digital content creation
Solid understanding of digital storytelling, digital formats, and social media management
Ability to produce content tailored to various social media platforms
Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (an asset)
Proficiency with content management systems such as WordPress, Scoop (Radio-Canada internal tool), or iNews
Good knowledge of image editing tools such as Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Lightroom
Good knowledge of audio-video production tools such as Avid Newscutter, Dalet Plus, or Media Central
Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada Journalistic Standards and Practices
Valid driver’s licence
