Job Description - Cultural Land Stewardship Researcher

Location: Lillooet Tribal Council Office
Reports To: Emergency Management Coordinator
Term: Full-Time, Permanent



Job Summary
The Cultural Land Stewardship Researcher will lead research with northern St’at’imc Nations to integrate 
Indigenous knowledge and environmental science. Responsibilities include documenting land use, assessing 
forest health, and developing cultural burning and sustainable land management strategies. We seek a leader 
committed to blending traditional knowledge with modern resilience approaches to strengthen climate adaptation 
in Indigenous communities.

Key Responsibilities
• Develop, and implement a comprehensive historical cultural burning and wildfire report.
• Conduct historical land use studies comparing past and present forest conditions, and wildfire 
patterns.
• Develop recommendations for wildfire mitigation and cultural burning strategies.
• Prepare detailed reports, proposals, and budgets and liaise with provincial and federal agencies.
Qualifications
• Degree in Environmental Studies, Indigenous Studies, Forestry, Cultural Anthropology, Research 
or related field or Grade 12 plus 2 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education 
and experience.
• Demonstrated experience in project management, particularly in a nonprofit.
• Experience working in First Nation communities, engaging community leaders and elders.
• Knowledge of wildfire mitigation, cultural burning, and land stewardship practices.
• Strong research and analytical skills (qualitative and quantitative).

COMPENSATION
This position is full time includes a comprehensive benefit package and a wage range of $30.00 - $35.00 per hour.
