Job Title: Cultural Wellness Facilitator, Full-time, Two Permanent Positions


 


Location of Positions: QFN Office locations: Stephenville and Corner Brook


 


Hours of Work:
Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week


 


Rate of Pay: $42,500.00 /per annum.


 


Job Description: The Cultural Wellness facilitator is responsible for the collaboration, facilitation, and coordination of the delivery of Indigenous Culture, social development projects and community-based initiatives within the wards of Qalipu First Nation territory and/or their partners.


 


The Cultural Wellness Facilitator will play a key role in fostering community engagement by creating and supporting opportunities for individuals to participate in cultural projects, traditional teachings, ceremonies, events, and activities. This will be achieved through collaboration with community members, service providers, and partner organizations to ensure the consistent delivery of culturally relevant programming.


 


The Facilitator will work to enhance access to Mi’kmaw culture and Indigenous teachings for individuals, families, and groups, contributing to the cultural enrichment and well-being of the Qalipu First Nation community. By facilitating partnerships with interdepartmental teams and community stakeholders, the facilitator will lead the development and implementation of cultural initiatives, community development projects, and workshops that promote Indigenous identity, cultural continuity, and social cohesion.


 


Responsibilities:


1.       Facilitates and promotes cultural awareness


2.       Creates positive awareness and understanding of culture and wellness


3.       Build cultural capacity that supports resilience and holistic wellness


4.       Coordinate with departmental staff to compose proposals for external funding


5.       Develop community partnerships with like-minded groups and organizations to deliver cultural and community/social development programming from connections with membership, groups and community, linking them to internal programs and relevant staff


6.       Utilize collaborations and relationships built within Mi’kma’ki to support the wellness of Qalipu First Nation


7.       Facilitate and assist with event planning for annual cultural programs, activities, celebrations, and workshops


8.       In consultation with the community, identify the community and groups' priorities for cultural programming, services, and activities that meet their needs


9.       Assist in the delivery of the various cultural and community outreach initiatives within the nine wards of Qalipu First Nation or partner locations, including interpretation, instruction, and supervision duties


10.   Assist in the development, coordination and delivery of special projects


11.   Coordinate and facilitate community engagement sessions


12.   Collaborate with community members, Elders, and stakeholders to ensure programs meet the needs of the community served.


13.   Facilitate community partners, Elders, and knowledge keepers to deliver community-based programming, workshops and initiatives.


14.   Document and report on program activities, outcomes, successes and challenges to the leadership team


15.   Develop surveys related to programs delivered and assess results.  Collect and maintain statistics and documentation for evaluation and reporting purposes 


16.   Participate in applicable committees and working groups


17.   Ensure files are stored and maintained as per the Canadian Privacy Act, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), the Qalipu Electronic Records Management System, and Quality Management Protocols for the Health and Wellness division


18.   Other duties and responsibilities as assigned


 


Qualifications:


 


Education: A degree or diploma in social services, psychology, social justice, community leadership, community studies or a similar program or a related area from an accredited university or college.  Group facilitation training would be a benefit


 


Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of facilitation experience, community outreach and engagement, or group leadership in an indigenous community.


 


Working Conditions: This position primarily involves office-based duties during regular working hours. However, due to the nature of the programs and events, which often occur after regular working hours and on weekends in various locations. Some travel and flexibility in work schedule is required. 


 


A portion of the work will take place in outdoor environments with variable weather conditions, based on the programming, events and initiatives undertaken. Including but not limited to working in both indoor and outdoor environments, travelling to remote communities or within Mi’kma’ki that could require overnight stays. 


 


Physical activity is required including walking up to 5 kilometers per day, hiking, bending, crouching and lifting up to a maximum of 30 pounds. 


Full-time Employee Benefits:


Annual Leave: FT employees - Three weeks per year.


Statutory and Non-Statutory Holidays:  Employees are entitled to 13 days off to cover Statutory and Non-statutory holidays per year.


Summer Office Hours: Office hours during the summer months are from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday to Thursday, Friday 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.  The schedule starts the later part of April and continues until the last week of September.


Christmas Break: the office closes down during the Christmas break, this is an added bonus that employees are entitled to. 


 FT Employee Benefits:  Option to enrol in C of C – Employee Benefits Plan.


 Registered Pension Plan:    QFN has a pension plan, FT employees contribute from 4 to 7%, employee contributions are matched by the Band. 


FT Sick and Family Medical:  Full Time Employees are entitled to 12 paid sick and family medical days per year.


Under 2 hours Medical Appointment: Employees may attend an appointment of less than 2 hours with no deductions to Sick and Family Medical.


Discretionary Bereavement: One day off per year for the death of a relative not included as immediate family, a close friend or neighbour.


Volunteer Program: Employees may volunteer outside of the organization up to 21 hours per year.
