Who We Are

The Mikisew Cree First Nation (Mikisew) has lived on the ancestral lands of the Athabasca Delta and Wood Buffalo National Park in northeastern Alberta since time immemorial. The lives of our members are linked to the land and to a close understanding of traditions, history and a natural way of life. Many of our members live in the hamlet of Fort Chipewyan, and our traditional lands range over a large portion of Athabasca oil sands deposits. For nearly 30 years, Mikisew Group, our wholly owned business arm, has worked toward the long-term, sustainable economic progress of our Nation and its members through employment and significant investments in education, training, social programs and infrastructure.

Who You Are

You are a reliable and detail‑oriented individual who takes pride in creating clean, organized, and safe work environments. In this role, you support the daily operations of Mikisew Cree First Nation by ensuring that all administrative and communal spaces—including the Mikisew Trade Centre (Blue Shop), Finance Trailer, and Chief and Council Chambers—are well‑maintained and welcoming. You bring strong work habits, consistency, and professionalism to every task.

The ideal candidate is self‑motivated, able to work independently, and comfortable performing a variety of cleaning and maintenance duties. You understand the importance of health and safety practices, handle equipment and cleaning materials responsibly, and demonstrate a commitment to supporting a healthy workplace. Key competencies include attention to detail, time management, reliability, and the ability to complete physically demanding tasks with care and efficiency.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain cleanliness and organization in the Mikisew Trade Centre (Blue Shop) office area, Finance Trailer, and Chief and Council Chambers.


• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust offices, hallways, and common areas.


• Clean and disinfect sinks, countertops, desks, chairs, filing cabinets, and other high‑touch surfaces.


• Clean all glass, mirrors, and interior and exterior windows.


• Spot‑clean doors, walls, and light switch covers.


• Dust blinds, windowsills, ledges, bookshelves, and other surfaces.


• Wipe and polish boardroom tables and align chairs appropriately.


• Empty all garbage and recycling bins and dispose of waste safely.


• Wash and dry coffee cups and other shared kitchen supplies.


• Clean fridges, microwaves, and other common‑use appliances as needed.


• Clean and disinfect all washroom areas; restock soap, toilet paper, and hand towels.


• Maintain sanitary washroom conditions at all times.


• Ensure proper storage and safe use of cleaning supplies and equipment.


• Report maintenance issues or repair needs promptly to the supervisor.


• Assist with minor setup, organization, or cleaning‑related tasks as requested by management.


• Complete assigned tasks within scheduled work hours with consistency and reliability.


• Perform all other duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE:

• Experience as a custodian, janitor, or in a similar cleaning or maintenance role.


• Knowledge of industrial cleaning equipment and proper operation.


• Understanding of safe handling and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.


• Strong attention to detail and conscientious work habits.


• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.


• High school diploma preferred but not required.
