The Custom Order Engineer is primarily responsible for providing electrical and mechanical design and documentation support for power distribution or control product lines. This includes, but is not limited to engineering designs, collaborating with application engineers and manufacturing associates, utilization of design automation software, and producing/maintaining manufacturing documentation. In this function you will: Consult with plant and field sales engineers in interpreting and defining new equipment applications. Develop a variety of complex drawings and bills-of-material based upon established product designs, which provides sufficient detail to accurately convey the purchaser's equipment application. Coordinate mechanical and electrical interfaces with other products. Advise Drafting/Design, Manufacturing, and Purchasing - when required - in interpreting information for the accurate production of equipment in accordance with the purchaser's requirements. Manage Manufacturing and Engineering Change Notices. Demonstrate advanced computer skills with ability to learn required software (Bid Manager, AutoCAD, Design Automation and Oracle). Consult with Quality in resolving issues after the equipment is shipped, when required. Conduct special development/application projects of a complex nature. Inform cost and cycle time improvement activities. Conduct technical training guidance and seminars, as required. Analyze needs and recommend revisions to Department Policies and Procedures. Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. Registration as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) with the Association of Science & Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) or eligible for registration. Knowledge of CSA standard and CEC code. 3-5 years' experience in the application of control and switchgear assembly products up to 38kV. Proficient with AutoCAD. Legally authorized to work in Canada without company sponsorship now and in the future. No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Engineering experience within the electrical industry. Experience with Lean management and continuous improvement techniques. Knowledge of power distribution products (LV and MV Switchgear, Panelboards and Switchboards, Motor Control Centers, etc.) Proficient with the French language. Project Management experience. You bring strong organizational, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills, complemented by proficiency in MS Office and AutoCAD. Your ability to communicate effectively—both verbally and in writing—along with strong presentation and customer service skills ensures clear technical communication with customers and manufacturing teams. Additionally, you possess solid knowledge of design standards and excel at delivering accurate, high-quality work through strong computer and analytical capabilities.
