Data Steward

We are hiring for this position out of our Toronto and Vancouver offices. Successful candidates who apply outside of these areas will be expected to relocate and reside in a location that is within a commutable distance.

About the role:

The Data Steward plays a key role in supporting Peoples Group’s data governance efforts, ensuring data quality, privacy, and compliance across the organization. This role involves close collaboration with business units and IT to maintain trusted data assets and uphold regulatory standards.

About the day-to-day:

• Develop and maintain data governance policies, standards, and procedures.


• Monitor and improve data quality across key dimensions (accuracy, completeness, timeliness).


• Maintain inventories of critical data assets, including classification and documentation.


• Collaborate with internal teams to align data assets with business needs.


• Ensure compliance with data-related regulations (e.g., PIPEDA, Law25, GDPR).


• Investigate and resolve data inconsistencies and quality issues.


• Report on data quality metrics and governance initiatives.


• Promote data literacy and train users on data standards.


• Recommend and implement improvements to data management processes.

About the qualifications:

• Minimum 3 years of experience in data management, stewardship, or governance.


• Strong understanding of data governance frameworks and data quality principles.


• Familiarity with metadata management, data cataloging, and data lineage.


• Experience with regulatory compliance in data (e.g., PIPEDA, GDPR).


• Proficiency with data catalog tools and MDM platforms (e.g., MS Purview, Informatica).


• Exposure to data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is an asset.


• Knowledge of cloud-based data platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) preferred.


• Understanding of data security, masking, and anonymization techniques.


• Professional certification (CDMP, DAMA, or equivalent) is a plus.


• Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred).

About the work environment:

Peoples Group offers a flexible and hybrid work environment. In this role you will work a combination of in-office and remotely from home. Typically, you'll be working regular business hours, Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 4:30pm with flexibility around start/end times.

Hiring process:

Compensation: 

Peoples Group is pleased to offer employees a competitive annual salary plus a discretionary profit share opportunity. Salary for this position will vary between $75,000 and $95,000 per year depending on the knowledge, skills, abilities and experience that the chosen candidate possesses.
