Job Description






Salary Range: $45.62 - $54.30

 

 

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the Decision Support Specialist leverages advanced data analytics and statistical expertise to transform complex data into actionable insights that support informed decision-making.

 

The Decision Support team plays a critical role in enabling evidence-based operational and strategic decisions by converting accurate, timely data into meaningful information. As the steward of non-financial data across the organization, the department supports the analytics and reporting needs of Cambridge Memorial Hospital (CMH).

 

Working in partnership with clinical and non-clinical programs, the team develops dashboards, scorecards, and key performance indicators (KPIs) with appropriate targets, supports the development of action plans to improve performance and resource utilization, and serves as a trusted advisor to senior and operational leaders.

 

The Decision Support Specialist applies clinical and operational knowledge to identify organizational and community needs related to performance measurement and quality improvement. The role requires familiarity with provincial and national reporting requirements, including Ontario Health and the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), along with strong capabilities in data analytics, data management, visualization, statistical analysis, and performance reporting.

Responsibilities:

 

 

Support Organizational Decision-Making

  • Champion a culture of data-driven decision-making across all levels of the organization
  • Leverage high-quality data sources (e.g., Health Records, MEDITECH, Oracle (Cerner), Case Costing) to support effective resource allocation and evidence-based decisions

Dashboard and KPI Development

  • Collaborate with program leaders to define and implement clinical performance and outcome indicators
  • Design and develop dashboards and reporting solutions to support performance monitoring, planning, and continuous quality improvement

Data Analysis and Insight Generation

  • Provide analytical support to clinical and operational programs through data interpretation, analysis, and visualization
  • Translate data into clear, actionable insights and support the development of targeted improvement plans

Skills and Qualifications:  

 

  • Degree in Health Informatics, Health Sciences, Computer Science, Data Science, Health Administration, or a related field; equivalent experience in a hospital setting will be considered
  • 3–5 years of experience in decision support, performance measurement, or analytics within a healthcare environment is preferred
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to generate innovative insights
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Access, Power BI, and Power Apps
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
  • Familiarity with Python and frameworks such as Flask is an asset
  • Understanding and knowledge of Oracle Discern Analytics and Discern Explorder Language (CCL) is an asset

Healthcare Data Knowledge

  • Experience with CIHI and provincial datasets (e.g., DAD, NACRS, OMHRS, NRS, ALR, SETP, WTIS)
  • Proficiency with healthcare business intelligence tools (e.g., IntelliHealth, IDS, CIHI Insight, iPort)
  • Knowledge of healthcare funding methodologies, including HBAM and Quality-Based Procedures (QBP), is an asset
  • Experience with MEDITECH (Magic) , Oracle Cerner patient care system is preferred

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement capabilities
  • Customer-focused, consultative approach with a demonstrated ability to influence and support change
