Job Description - Development Associate - Antibody Content

About us:

Nomic was founded with the purpose of making biology easier to measure. To do this, we have untangled some of the most difficult problems in protein profiling. Our team is combining DNA nanotechnology, high-dimensional flow cytometry, laboratory automation, and machine learning to develop the world’s highest throughput proteomic platform: the nELISA.

Since spinning out of McGill University, we have partnered with and provided platform access to dozens of drug discovery groups including GSK, 4 of the top 10 pharmas, and leading biotechs. We have recently launched a state of the art manufacturing and protein profiling facility that enables multiplexed measurement of >2.5M samples a year, generating an effective 500M protein assays in the process.

We are building a diverse team of engineers, scientists, and world-changers. We like to break down difficult problems using a first principles approach, often leveraging the latest breakthroughs from across the scientific and technological spectrum to drive our mission forward.

Nomic is headquartered in Montreal, Canada with a satellite research lab in Boston, Massachusetts. The majority of our team is based in Montreal and works in a new, shared office/laboratory space with an in-person, but flexible work-from-home, policy.

About the role:

As a Development Associate (Content) at Nomic, you will be joining the effort of developing and launching additional protein biomarkers to the nELISA proteomics platform. The Operations Content Development team at Nomic, is dedicated to developing processes and protocols to help us grow the protein biomarkers (plex) of the nELISA platform. You will be an integral part of our efforts in expanding the content (plex #) of our technology. This will enable some of our customers by adding content that is of high interest to their studies. You will work closely with commercial and operations teams to ensure the platform’s nELISA sensors are built and meet the performance standards for various applications and studies. In addition, you will contribute to fine tuning the business processes around the entire content expansion workflow to make it run like a well-oiled machine.

Your role will involve substantial bench work to run, validate, and iterate on screening and scale up protocols, and coordinate closely with stakeholders to optimize and develop new protocols. This will require significant teamwork, yet autonomy in pushing projects forward.

What you will be doing:

You will contribute to our content expansion and performance improvements by sourcing antibodies, running screening and expansion manufacturing protocols and validation assays. You will lead and contribute to the development of new content within our growing plex list. Requires working with various robotics (Lynx) and other instruments for manufacturing and testing. You will troubleshoot potential issues that may arise during the development and testing of new targets, whether autonomously or in cross-functional initiative. You will contribute to building the content launch operating unit by developing and deploying new features, protocols and workflows in collaboration with the manufacturing, automation, software and Data teams to accommodate plex expansion. You will research and investigate antibodies and antigens within the industry to find content that is likely to have the best success in our nELISA platform technology. You will use your project management skills (along with accurate record keeping and documentation) to keep track of the progress of multiple targets in various stages of development from procurement to launch. This role involves high cross-functional interactions as it touches multiple departments (eg. supply chain, product, lab ops, ops admin, data)

What we’re looking for:

Bachelors or Masters in a Biology-related field or equivalent, with a minimum of 3 years of wet lab experience and experience in the BioTech Industry (min 1 year exp w/ Masters, 2-3 years exp w/ Bachelors). Knowledge of techniques in a biotechnology discipline, e.g. ELISA, flow cytometry, bead-based assays, bio-conjugation& purification, spectroscopy, microscopy, PCR, cell culture. For internal candidates, experience with UMC and/or UPC workflows. Able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Data driven, strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. Able to manage projects and facilitate cross-functional efforts.

Join us if you:

  • Connect deeply with our mission, ambition and sense of duty. Our mission isn’t marketing flash: we developed our technology to better measure biology and discover biomarkers for early disease detection. We firmly believe we will be successful in literally eradicating certain diseases by enabling them to be diagnosed earlier. We also believe that our hard work to bring this technology to its full potential is our duty.

  • Are up for a challenge and want to grow: We are a team of problem-solvers, and we continually put ourselves to the test and go into the unknown. We have a growth mindset, both on hard and soft skills, and we rely on each other to give critical and candid feedback to ensure that we can all reach our full potential.

  • Want to be at the cutting-edge of biotechnology. The nELISA is a new tool that leverages DNA nanotechnology to generate proteomic data more efficiently than ever before. You get to design, build and run the system that will run the technology going forward.

  • Love hands-on lab work, and want to take hold of key learnings from experiments, and use them to develop improved analytical methods to ensure the robust biological validation of immunoassays.

  • Prefer working and communicating within a diverse cross-functional team. You would get to interface with teammates from the Engineering, Operations, and Commercial teams on a daily basis, joining a collaborative, diverse, and inclusive team where your ideas will be valued.

If you are passionate about lab work, want to drive innovation in proteomics, and are eager to make a meaningful impact in the world, we invite you to apply and join us on our journey to redefine proteomics and the understanding of biology.
