Job Description

Reporting to the Manager of Planning and Development Services, the Development Engineering Technologist is a core member of the Development Services team. The incumbent is responsible for the review and processing of minor development applications and permits as well as review and inspection of civil works for compliance within development services bylaw regulations with a civil engineering focus. Having a proficient understanding of water and sewer infrastructure, development projects, civil construction practices and drawings, and the City’s Official Community Plan is essential for this role. This is a technical and administrative role, providing support to the senior Planning and Development Services team, coordination assistance with and guidance at events and public consultations, collecting research and analyzing statistical data, and maintaining the database system for tracking development and subdivision applications, managing the lifecycle of development and subdivision files, and inspections of infrastructure. The Development Engineering Technologist will assist in the development of policies, guidelines, and regulations related to community development.

Qualifications

  • A Civil Engineering diploma/degree supplemented by two years of related experience, preferably in a local government setting.
  • Sound knowledge of Zoning Bylaws, the Official Community Plans, regulations, policies, municipal and civil engineering planning principles, and provisions applicable to the work.
  • Experience in water/sewer design and construction and project delivery is considered an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret various construction plans, building permits, specifications and technical information, policies, and procedures.
  • Valid BC Class 5 driver’s license.

Additional Information

This is a position is within the CUPE local bargaining unit with a wage of $42.02 per hour [certified](2024 rate).In addition to competitive salaries,the City of Merritt offers a comprehensive well-being benefits, an employee and family assistance plan (EAP)and exclusive perks.
