DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING (DI) STUDENT EXTERN 

(TEMPORARY PART TIME)

The Diagnostic Imaging (DI) Student Extern will be working as part of an interdisciplinary team in the capacity of an unregulated health care provider.  The DI Student Extern will support the operations of the Groves Diagnostic Imaging department. The DI Student Extern practices under direct and/or indirect supervision of the medical radiation technologist (MRT) assigned to them, or members administrative leadership teams of the department. DI Student Externs are not permitted to perform any controlled acts.

DI Student Externs will be hired on contract, during which the DI Student Extern will work part time hours to a maximum of full-time hours (37.5 hours per week). The scheduling of these hours will be determined based on department needs and may include day/evening/night and weekend shifts. DI Student Externs may be assigned to imaging-related tasks involving medical imaging operations and supporting patient navigation in any of our clinical areas.

These two temporary part time positions are non-union.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• 
  Work in collaboration with regulated and unregulated health care professionals in their assigned area


• 
  Assist with patient positioning & repositioning (ex. Stretcher, imaging bed, wheelchair)


• 
  Facilitate patient navigation of changing rooms, belongings, gowns etc


• 
  Administer screening forms (contrast etc) under supervision of regulated staff member


• 
  Assist with the departmental duties such as answer calls, restock supplies, and running supplies


• 
  Equipment - Assist staff with sanitization of equipment and linen management


• 
  Liaises with appropriate members of the diagnostic imaging team to identify patient care or administrative needs


• 
  Reports patient observations to appropriate member of the care team (Ex. comfort or safety factors)


• 
  Basic data entry into Radiology Information System (RIS)


• 
  Other duties as assigned to support the diagnostic imaging team
  

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Completion of year 1, 2, or 3 of Radiological Technology in a recognized Medical Radiation Sciences Program


• Possess ability to work in collaboration with the health care team.


• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.


• Demonstrated knowledge of infection prevention and control practices.


• Ability to follow instructions accurately.
  


• Satisfactory performance and attendance required


• Satisfactory Reference Checks required prior to start date


• Must provide a Police Vulnerable Sector Check


• Must complete a Pre-Employment Health Assessment prior to being hired
  

HOURS OF WORK:  

• Must be available to work all shifts as per department needs including day/evening/night and weekend shifts       


• Must be available for minimum of 1 shift (7.5 hours per week), availability for 2 or 3 shifts per week is preferred
