Reporting directly to the Extrusion Shift Supervisor, the Die Technician must maintain effective communication with schedulers, press crews, and all other plant personnel. They are functionally responsible for the maintenance of all extrusion dies to ensure maximum yield and productivity. When working with caustic substances, the attendant is responsible for handling and cleaning extrusion dies promptly, adhering to the schedule and ensuring efficient turnover time.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties and responsibilities of the Die Technician are detailed below, but not limited to the following:
Prepare dies according to required press schedules in collaboration with the Scheduling Dept.
Deliver the necessary dies to the appropriate presses promptly.
Help ensure graphite blocks are available for dies that need them, and make sure they are returned to the correct location.
Isolate dies that need correction and prioritize them as required.
Inspect and polish all dies. Recognize defects or abnormalities and notify correction staff, team lead, or supervisor.
Ensure caustic equipment operates efficiently and dies are loaded promptly to maximize die turnover to the press.
Confirm all extrusion dies are placed in caustic tanks once cooled, as required, and are prioritized accordingly.
Monitor caustic equipment to ensure it is functioning optimally and track CPI and pump outs needed, in communication with the shift supervisor or team lead.
Organize work based on priorities set by the die shop when necessary
Ensure all dies are rinsed well after removal from caustic and sand-blasted
Ensure quick turnover times and caustic tanks/baskets are being used to get dies back to the presses as quickly as possible
Maintain a clean work environment in a caustic enclosure
Report any equipment malfunction to maintenance, including the exhaust system
Comply with all quality-related policies, procedures and system requirements
Other duties as assigned
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
Minimum Grade 12 education
Basic Knowledge of extrusion process with exposure to tooling/dies an asset
1 year experience with polishing, grinding, or utilizing metal finishing tools an asset
Technical Skills/Competence
Must be able to read technical drawings
Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
Candidate must be willing and able to work with caustics and comfortable lifting up to 50 pounds
EPICS and Outlook knowledge preferred
Quality driven with attention to detail is a must

The expected pay range for this position is $20.40-$24.08 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to, skills, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and business needs.
