Job Description - Dietitian

Dietitian



Summary


 


Reporting to the Health Services Lead, we are seeking a nutrition specialist to educate clients about food, nutrition, and healthy food choices. The incumbent will service both clinical and community nutrition for both Eskasoni Health Centre and the upcoming Kiknu Long Term Care facility.


 


Responsibilities


 


Clinical & Community Nutrition:


As part of multi-disciplinary team, the dietitian will collaborate with primary care providers including physicians, home and community care staff, Kiknu Long Term Care staff, diabetes care program, maternal and child health program, early intervention, addiction and mental health services, community health and chronic disease management in Eskasoni. The Dietician provides individual patient care and supports all community programs and services in providing education on healthy lifestyles and the development of preventative programming with a focus on healthy eating.


 


Requirements


 




  • Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and successful completion of a dietetic internship from an accredited program


  • Registered with the Nova Scotia Dietetic Association and be eligible for membership with the Dietitians of Canada


  • Certified Diabetes Educator preferred or willingness to obtain within two years


  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, time management, critical thinking skills


  • Knowledge of and an ability to network within and outside a first nation community


  • Knowledge of best practices in Aboriginal specific public/community health.


  • Previous experience working with First Nations or in a community setting


  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills


  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint), email and internet usage


  • Able to use electronic medical record


  • Ability to adapt to flexible workload and stressful situations.


  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience.


  • Ability to travel, valid driver’s license and vehicle


  • Fluency in Mikmaq, an asset


 


 


Term: Full time (37.5 hours per week)



Salary: Based on qualifications and experience
