It facilitates strategic international engagement, supports institutional priorities, builds and improves partnerships, and provides essential tools and support for faculties and units.


About the Role


The Director, Global Engagement provides strategic leadership to SFU's engagement in the Asia and Americas region. This dynamic self-starter works with internal and external stakeholders to develop impactful partnerships, programs and initiatives. The role provides guidance, leadership and mentorship to staff and campus partners with planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating strategies to incorporate and raise the profile of global engagement programs locally, nationally, and internationally.


The successful candidate will demonstrate strategic leadership, cross-cultural competence, and strong relationship-building skills, particularly in the Asia and Americas regions. They will excel in partnership development, guiding and mentoring staff and advising campus partners while driving innovative global initiatives. Excellent communication and analytical skills are essential, enabling clear, persuasive idea-sharing and data-informed decision-making.

Qualifications


Master’s degree in International Relations, Arts, Business Administration, or Education, or a related field, and five years of related experience in areas such as analysis and planning; program, project or event management; and community outreach and engagement, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.



  • Excellent persuasion, influencing and public speaking skills with the ability to influence key stakeholders through effective presentations.

  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and intercultural skills.

  • Experience in international relations or other related areas.

  • Ability to develop relationships and partnerships and to work collaboratively at all levels and areas within and outside of the organization.

  • Ability to provide leadership, guidance and mentorship to others.
