Job Description - Director of Human Resources & Operations
Our client, a respected and well-established boutique law firm located in downtown Vancouver, is seeking a Director of Human Resources & Operations to join their leadership team. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced operations and HR professional who enjoys working in a collaborative, professional environment and making a meaningful impact on firm culture, strategy, and day-to-day operations.
The successful candidate will work closely with the firm's leadership group and oversee all administrative and operational functions, including human resources, technology, facilities, marketing, vendor management, and strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Firm Operations
Provide strategic leadership and oversight of the firm's administrative and operational functions.
Foster a collaborative, accountable, and positive workplace culture.
Serve as a trusted advisor to lawyers and staff on human resources and operational matters.
Develop, implement, and maintain firm policies, procedures, and best practices.
Lead initiatives that support employee engagement, retention, and organizational effectiveness.
Handle sensitive and confidential matters with professionalism and discretion.
Human Resources & Talent Management
Oversee all aspects of human resources, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, compensation, benefits, and compliance.
Lead hiring processes for support staff and professionals across the firm.
Coordinate annual performance reviews and ongoing professional development initiatives.
Support managers and employees in addressing workplace concerns and fostering positive communication.
Manage employee transitions, including onboarding and offboarding processes.
Provide recommendations regarding compensation adjustments, bonuses, and workforce planning.
Governance & Strategic Implementation
Coordinate leadership and management meetings, including agenda preparation and meeting minutes.
Support firm committees and ensure effective implementation of strategic and operational decisions.
Act as the firm's Privacy Officer and oversee compliance initiatives.
Technology & Information Systems
Oversee the firm's technology infrastructure, including software, hardware, telecommunications, and vendor relationships.
Evaluate and recommend technology enhancements to improve efficiency and service delivery.
Coordinate technology implementations, upgrades, and staff training initiatives.
Manage relationships with external IT consultants and service providers.
Facilities, Vendor Management & Risk
Oversee office facilities, equipment, and workplace operations.
Manage relationships with landlords, contractors, suppliers, and other service providers.
Administer the firm's insurance portfolio and coordinate renewals and claims management.
Address facility-related issues and support effective space management.
Marketing, Communications & Events
Lead internal and external firm events and community engagement initiatives.
Coordinate industry association participation, sponsorships, and networking opportunities.
Oversee firm communications, website updates, social media presence, and marketing initiatives.
Support client engagement activities including appreciation and holiday programs.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of senior management and operations experience within a professional services environment.
Previous law firm experience is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated expertise in human resources, operations, administration, and organizational leadership.
Excellent communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
Strong project management and organizational abilities.
Experience with legal industry technology platforms and HRIS systems is considered an asset.
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive salary ranging from $135,000 to $185,000, depending on experience.
