Hours of Work: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm
Wage Rate: $60.95 - $72.57 per hour

About the Role
The Director of Nursing and Personal Care position is responsible for the operations of the Nursing Department of the designated Homes.  This role ensures the provision of care to Elders by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and services within the department.


Job Duties and Responsibilities
Management of Nursing Department:


•Direct the day-to-day operations of the nursing department; monitor and evaluate the operations and report on results achieved


•Ensure compliance by nursing staff with the Fixing Long-Term Care Act (2021) and associated regulations by overseeing the daily status of residents and ensuring their needs are met


•Ensure RNs and RPNs (Registered Staff) are working within the standards set out by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and that all staff are trained and monitored for compliance within all relevant legislation including Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 and the Occupational Health and Safety Act


•Provide input and advice to the Administrator on policies and procedures for the designated departments


•Responsible for the control and safekeeping of drugs, narcotics, pharmaceuticals and the legal destruction of surplus medications


•Ensure the maintenance, security, accuracy and confidentiality of medical records


•Listen and respond to Elder/family concerns, complaints, and suggestions through various methods (i.e., direct contact, Family or Residents' Council, family/Elder surveys)


•Maintain ongoing communication with staff, pharmacists, physicians, nurse practitioner and outside agencies (e.g. Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) , Lambton College instructors and students and MOHLTC Compliance Inspectors) through attending and chairing various meetings, email, fax, phone, in person or mail


•Responsible for ordering and maintaining the supplies and equipment for the department


•Participate in fire drills and safety measures involving all nursing personnel as well as other departments


•Advise the Administrator of any irregularities or problems that arise in areas of direct responsibility


•Complete required reports to the Ministry of Health through the Critical Incident System reporting process


•Work in a team concept with staff in all departments of the Homes in order to ensure the needs of the Elders are met


•Review all applications for admission to the Home, provide approval or recommend refusal to Administrator


Human Resources Management:


•Participate in the recruitment, selection, orientation, training of nursing staff


•Discipline of staff in conjunction with Administrator


Financial Management:


•Participate in budget preparation and make recommendations to the Administrator


•Monitor the budget and provide updates to the Administrator on a regular basis


•Assist in monthly variance analysis and suggest corrective action to be taken to achieve budget targets


General:


•Incumbents must keep up-to-date on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies and Procedures, etc. ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed


•Incumbents must possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the position's Physical Demands Analysis

Direct Supervision: Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, Health Care Aides, Personal Support Workers, Clerk-Typist II (MGM), Ward Clerk, RAI Coordinator


Indirect Supervision: Not applicable


Functional Authority: Not applicable


What We Are Looking For
Minimum Formal Education


•Bachelor of Nursing Sciences with current Certification of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse


Experience


•Minimum of 3 years' experience working as a registered nurse in a managerial or supervisory capacity in a health care setting


•Demonstrated leadership and communication skills 


•At least one year working as a Registered Nurse in the long-term care sector.


•Solid understanding of appropriate federal, provincial and municipal legislation and regulations related to the provision of long-term care services


•Knowledge of word processing/data processing to the level of accessing data and draft typing of letters and reports
