Job Description - Director, Transportation Revenue Operations


Director, Transportation Billing Operations

Position Overview

A growing North American organization is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to oversee its Billing Operations function. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role will be responsible for leading a team, driving process optimization initiatives, and establishing a long-term vision for the billing department.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in transforming billing operations through improved processes, enhanced controls, automation, and cross-functional collaboration. This individual will partner closely with Finance, Operations, Transportation, and Business Leadership teams to ensure billing processes support organizational growth while maintaining accuracy, efficiency, improving worflows, and customer satisfaction.

This opportunity is ideal for a senior leader who combines operational excellence with a strong track record of leading change within complex, high-volume service environments.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy



  • Develop and execute the strategic roadmap for the Billing Operations function.

  • Lead transformation initiatives focused on process improvement, scalability, automation, and operational effectiveness.

  • Build and foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and customer service excellence.

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to a team responsible for billing and revenue administration activities.

  • Act as a key advisor to executive leadership regarding billing operations, controls, and performance.

Operational Excellence



  • Oversee day-to-day billing operations, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing across multiple business streams.

  • Establish and maintain effective internal controls, governance processes, and operational standards.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce manual intervention.

  • Monitor operational performance through metrics, reporting, and service-level objectives.

  • Ensure consistency and standardization of billing practices across the organization.

Cross-Functional Partnership



  • Collaborate closely with Finance, Operations, Customer Service, and Technology teams to align billing processes with business requirements.

  • Partner with stakeholders to resolve complex billing challenges and improve workflow effectiveness.

  • Support system enhancements, process automation initiatives, and technology implementations.

  • Drive alignment between operational activity and revenue capture processes.

Analytics & Reporting



  • Develop meaningful reporting and dashboards to support business decision-making.

  • Analyze trends, identify opportunities for improvement, and recommend solutions that enhance operational performance.

  • Monitor billing accuracy, revenue integrity, and key departmental performance indicators.

  • Support financial planning, forecasting, audit activities, and executive reporting requirements.

Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Supply Chain, or a related discipline.

  • Progressive leadership experience overseeing billing, revenue operations, finance operations, or related functions.

  • Proven experience leading teams within high-volume, transaction-driven environments.

  • Demonstrated success driving organizational change, process improvement, and operational transformation initiatives.

  • Strong understanding of billing processes, revenue controls, workflow optimization, and systems integration.

  • Experience working cross-functionally with operational and financial stakeholders.

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management capabilities.

  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Background



  • Experience within transportation, 3PL, Supply chain

  • Exposure to ERP, billing, revenue management, or operational systems.

  • Experience leading automation, digitization, or shared services initiatives.

  • Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement experience is considered an asset.
