Fanshawe College is undergoing an exciting multi-phase ERP transformation through Fanshawe One powered by Workday, a strategic initiative aimed at modernizing our core administrative systems for employees and students. The project was designed with 3 phases: Phase 1 Core Human Capital Management (HCM) and Finance, Phase 2 Adaptive Planning and Phase 3 Student. With Phase 1 and 2 completed, we have created a Workday Sustainment team to support the HCM, Finance and Adaptive Planning modules. As each phase completes, the Workday Sustainment team will need to support all live modules.

Position Summary
The Director, Workday Sustainment provides enterprise-wide leadership and strategic oversight for the ongoing stabilization, sustainment, optimization, and continuous improvement of the College’s Workday ecosystem. This role is accountable for ensuring Workday delivers sustained value across Human Capital Management (HCM), Financial Management, Adaptive Planning, and the transition to and long-term sustainment of Workday Student. Operating at a senior leadership level, the Director leads a multi-functional sustainment team, establishes a mature operating model grounded in agile/scrum practices, and serves as the College’s primary point of accountability for Workday governance, vendor performance, and alignment with institutional priorities. The role partners closely with executive leaders, PMO, IT/ISS, functional owners, and Workday to enable scalable, secure, and user-centered digital operations across the College.
How You’ll Make an Impact
Enterprise Workday Leadership and Strategy
Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Workday sustainment function, ensuring alignment with college priorities, digital strategy, and long-term scalability
Act as the College’s senior Workday authority, leveraging expert knowledge to optimize configuration, workflows, security, and data integrity across HCM, Finance, Adaptive Planning, and Student (when it goes live)
Establish and mature a sustainment operating model, including intake, triage, prioritization, and delivery of enhancements and fixes
Lead the transition of Workday Student from project delivery into operational sustainment, in close partnership with the PMO and Student project leadership
Identify opportunities to maximize Workday’s value through continuous improvement, innovation, and adoption of new functionality
People Leadership & Capability Development
Lead, coach, and develop the Workday Sustainment team, building deep functional and technical capability across modules
Establish a high-performing team culture grounded in agile/scrum principles, continuous learning, accountability, and service excellence
Define clear roles, career pathways, and performance expectations for sustainment staff
Foster a culture aligned with college leadership values, emphasizing collaboration, inclusion, transparency, and stewardship
Provide functional leadership and influence across decentralized Workday users and super-users
Sustainment Operations, Intake & Deliver
Oversee ticket triage, backlog management, sprint planning, and delivery to ensure timely and prioritized resolution of issues and enhancements
Ensure consistent, transparent communication with stakeholders regarding priorities, timelines, and outcomes
Balance operational stability with continuous improvement and enhancement demand
Establish and maintain service levels, metrics, and performance reporting for sustainment activities
Governance, Risk & Release Management
Establish and enforce Workday governance frameworks covering configuration standards, security, data integrity, and change management
Lead bi-annual Workday release planning, testing, impact analysis, and adoption across the College
Ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory, privacy, and audit requirements
Identify and mitigate operational, reputational, financial, and data risks related to Workday
Vendor & Partner Management
Act as the primary relationship owner for Workday and the Managed Services partner
Oversee utilization, performance, and outcomes of the Managed Services provider, ensuring value-for-money and alignment with college priorities
Engage Workday for training, roadmap insights, release readiness, and advisory services
Collaborate with Procurement and Legal on vendor-related performance or escalation matters
Enterprise Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Partner closely with the PMO to ensure effective project-to-sustainment transitions
Collaborate with ISS/IT to ensure seamless integrations, data flows, and technical architecture across enterprise systems
Build strong, trusted relationships with HR, Finance, Student, and other functional leaders to ensure Workday supports operational and strategic needs
Champion user experience, adoption, and effective change management for functional and end users
Qualifications
Post-secondary 4-year degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Information Systems, Computer Science, Finance, or a related field
Minimum 7 years of senior leadership experience
Minimum 7 years hands-on Workday experience across Human Capital Management (HCM) and Finance
Experience with Adaptive Planning and/or Workday Student preferred
Experience in higher education or similarly complex public-sector environments is an asset
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Workday Certifications in HCM, Finance, and/or Student Agile/Scrum or IT Service Management certification is an asset
Expert-level knowledge of Workday architecture, configuration, security, business process framework, reporting, and integrations
Demonstrated experience leading Workday sustainment in a complex, multi-module environment
Expertise in evaluating, documenting and improving Workday-driven business processes to enhance efficiency and user experience
Strong understanding of business process design and ability to align system functionality with evolving organizational needs
Knowledge of governance best practices and ability to establish structured processes for system maintenance and change management
Strong people leadership skills including conflict management, change leadership, and stakeholder management skills
Ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders and enhance cross-functional partnerships to support system adoption and strategic goals
Advanced relationship management and consultation skills
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively and drive process improvements to align Workday with business goals and drive long-term system sustainability and scalability
Advanced decision-making skills with the ability to analyze multiple variables, assess risks, and implement effective solutions
