Job Description - Dispatcher

A Dispatcher is required to communicate with drivers to assist with problem resolution while on route. Furthermore, handling incoming service orders, directs drivers, and resolves service issues. Interacts with customers, including customer service, sales, and operational staff. The dispatcher will uses GFL proprietary software to enter ticket information and track productivity.



 

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Schedule services and address customer needs for service changes, ensuring completion in accordance with established policies. 

  • Dispatch calls to routes based on driver locations and designated routes. 

  • Perform driver check-ins at the end of the day to ensure accurate and complete paperwork. 

  • Distribute, collect, and review route sheets to ensure accurate data entry, route closing  

  • Coordinate with other departments to clarify roles and responsibilities for resolving service issues. 

  • Handle additional tasks as assigned by the Dispatcher Manager. 

  • Interact with customers, the customer service department, sales, and operations staff under the direction of the Dispatch Manager. 

  • Work with routing specialists to optimize routes. 

  • Field incoming calls/emails from customers. 

  • Troubleshoot and resolve delivery and pickup issues proactively. 

  • Assist in determining driver staffing levels for optimal responsiveness and productivity. 

  • Record and distribute driver information to relevant departments. 

  • Communicate breakdowns with maintenance shop personnel. 

  • Ensure effective and professional communication via email, phone, and two-way devices. 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies: 

  • High school diploma required; post-secondary education or diploma is an asset. 

  • 1-2 years of experience in transportation, dispatch, or customer service. 

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 

  • Excellent customer service focus. 

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively. 

  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, and Word. 

  • Industry knowledge is an asset. 

  • Advanced software and word processing skills, including adequate typing speed. 

  • Ability to work extended hours, including occasional weekends. 

  • Experience with TRUX system preferred, but willingness to learn is acceptable. 

  • Additional training in transportation, logistics, or customer service (call center environment) is a plus.
