Job Title:
Dock Supervisor – Twin Anchors Houseboats
Job Description:
As a Dock Supervisor at Twin Anchors Houseboat Vacations (Shuswap Lakes Vacations INC.), the primary role is to oversee daily operations at the dock, ensure a safe, efficient, and timely handling of houseboat and watercraft arrivals, departures, and dockside activities. You will supervise dockhands, coordinate maintenance tasks, and deliver excellent guest service to create a smooth and welcoming experience for all guests.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership:
- Supervise, train, and schedule dock staff (dockhands, cleaners, maintenance helpers).
- Provide guidance and coaching to ensure staff follow safety protocols and service standards.
- Dock Operations:
- Oversee the docking and undocking of vessels, including securing lines and assisting guests with boarding and disembarking.
- Monitor and maintain the cleanliness, organization, and safety of the dock area.
- Conduct regular inspections of dock equipment (fuel pumps, water lines, electrical hookups, etc.) and report any maintenance needs.
- Guest Service:
- Greet and assist guests during boarding and returning processes.
- Communicate clearly about safety instructions, vessel operations, and dock procedures.
- Resolve guest concerns quickly, professionally, and with a service-first mindset.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Enforce dock safety policies and procedures for both staff and guests.
- Respond promptly to emergencies such as spills, accidents, or weather-related issues.
- Ensure vessels are secured properly, especially during adverse weather.
- Administrative Duties:
- Maintain docking logs, incident reports, and maintenance checklists.
- Coordinate with management on vessel scheduling, maintenance, and special requests.
- Monitor inventory and request supplies needed for dock operations.
- Skills & Qualifications
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Previous supervisory experience, preferably in a marina, resort, or marine environment.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Knowledge of marine safety, vessel handling, and basic maintenance practices.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.
- Customer service focused, with strong problem-solving abilities.
- Physically fit: able to lift heavy equipment, work on and around water, and endure varying weather conditions.
- Basic mechanical knowledge is an asset (e.g., understanding of fueling, water, electrical systems on boats).
- First Aid/CPR certification and boating license (or willingness to obtain).
Preferred Knowledge/Experience
- Dock/Marina Operations:
2+ years experience working at a marina, houseboat rental company, or in related marine environments.
- Supervisory Experience:
1–2 years leading small teams, ideally in a customer-facing, outdoor, or tourism setting.
- Boating and Navigation Knowledge:
Experience operating boats, docking, anchoring, and understanding boating safety best practices.
- Guest Service Experience:
Background in hospitality, tourism, or customer service industries is highly valued.
- Maintenance and Inspection:
Familiarity with performing vessel inspections, reporting damage, and minor repair tasks.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, bend, and move heavy equipment and vessels.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including high summer temperatures.
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods during shifts.
** Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with customers and staff in a professional, friendly and respectful manner.**
Working Conditions:
- Employment Type: Full-time seasonal
- Work Schedule: Varies, including weekends and holidays, as per the needs of the business.
- Compensation:$ 24/hr for full-time staff.
