Job Description - Early Childhood Educator (Level 2/3)

Overview

The Early Childhood Educator plays a vital role in ensuring smooth daily operations, safety, and care across all learning environments at Fueling Brains.

Reporting to the Campus Director and working closely with Lead and Group Teachers, this role supports classroom readiness, ratio coverage, and consistent supervision throughout the day. Educators bring warmth, reliability, and collaborative spirit — helping every child feel safe, cared for, and engaged in their learning journey.

This position is not assigned to one specific age group or homeroom, offering flexibility to assist wherever support is needed — from early morning coverage to transitions, breaks, and end-of-day routines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Child Care & Supervision

  • Provide consistent, nurturing supervision that promotes each child’s sense of safety and belonging.

  • Support children with daily routines, including meals, toileting, hygiene, and rest time.

  • Model and encourage positive behavior, social interaction, and emotional regulation.

  • Maintain awareness of ratios, ensuring compliance with licensing and safety standards.

Classroom & Program Support

  • Assist Lead and Group Teachers with classroom setup, organization, and cleanup.

  • Prepare and replenish learning materials, art supplies, and daily activity stations.

  • Support smooth transitions between homerooms (Left Brain, Right Brain, Movement).

  • Reinforce key learning outcomes and play-based routines during activities.

  • Participate in classroom engagement as directed — reading, playing, and assisting in group activities.

Health, Safety & Licensing

  • Follow Fueling Brains’ and provincial child care health and safety regulations.

  • Conduct visual safety checks in classrooms, playgrounds, and washrooms.

  • Sanitize toys, surfaces, and materials regularly throughout the day.

  • Follow proper hygiene and allergy management protocols.

  • Report accidents, injuries, or concerns promptly to the Lead Teacher or Campus Director.

Team Collaboration

  • Work cooperatively with all educators to maintain daily flow and classroom consistency.

  • Provide coverage during educator breaks or shift transitions as needed.

  • Communicate clearly and respectfully to ensure accurate handovers and updates.

  • Participate in team meetings, professional development, and campus events.

Family Support & Professional Conduct

  • Greet families warmly at drop-off and pick-up, assisting with transitions as directed.

  • Uphold confidentiality, professionalism, and Fueling Brains’ culture of kindness and excellence.

  • Represent the school’s philosophy through calm, caring, and reliable interactions with children and adults alike.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Education

  • Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Level 2/3 certification required is a must.

  • Ongoing professional development or willingness to complete higher-level certification (Level 2/3) encouraged.

  • Training or coursework in child development, health and safety, or early learning is an asset.

Experience

  • Experience working with young children in a licensed childcare, daycare, or early learning environment with 1 to 2 years in Canada is a must.

  • Proven ability to remain nurturing, organized, and safe in fast-paced settings.

  • Familiarity with daily childcare routines and transitions (e.g., meals, naps, outdoor play).

  • Experience collaborating as part of an educator team is an asset.

Key Skills

  • Attentive, caring, and responsive to children’s needs; maintains safety and hygiene standards.

  • Adaptable to various classrooms, shifts, and schedules; dependable team member.

  • Clear, respectful communicator with colleagues, children, and families.

  • Helps prepare materials, maintain order, and support Lead and Group Teachers with enthusiasm.

  • Calm, positive, and dependable energy that contributes to a stable and joyful learning environment.

Work Environment Requirements

  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including early mornings or late afternoons, depending on facility requirements.

  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends for events and staff meetings.

  • Physical requirements: Active participation in physical play, classroom setup, and cleanup routines.

  • Comfort working both indoors and outdoors in all seasons.

  • Flexibility to support early opening, midday coverage, or end-of-day closing as assigned.

  • Willingness to assist across all classrooms and age groups as operationally required.

Additional Requirements

  • Criminal Record Check: Successful completion of a criminal record check, including a vulnerable sector search (must be valid and current).

  • First Aid Certification: Valid Emergency Child Care First Aid and CPR, or willingness to obtain within the first three months of employment.

  • Commitment to the Fueling Brains mission, values, and child-centered philosophy.

  • Participation in all mandatory staff training and professional development sessions.
