Tla’amin Child Development Resource Centre operates within the Tla’amin Nation The Tla’amin Nation is a modern, forward thinking, self-governing nation located on the beautiful upper Sunshine Coast (qathet Region).


Position Summary
Job status:         Casual on Call
Job title:             Early Childhood Educator I & II 
Hours of Work:  8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday
Work site:           Child Development Resource Centre (CDRC)

Salary:                $24.89 to 28.19 *In addition, this position qualifies for the $6/hr. provincial government 
                            wage enhancement for all hours worked directly with children

Internal/External Posting


In collaboration with the entire early childhood team, the Early Childhood Educator will provide safety, support, programming, and direct care to children under six within Tla’amin Nation’s three early childhood programs – Infant/Tots, 3-to-5-years, and preschool – to stimulate and develop their mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual development within a culturally and language rich Indigenous environment.


The successful applicant will be required to work in accordance with the BCGEU Collective Agreement as well as the policies and benefits therein, in addition to all relevant Tla’amin Health policies and procedures. The successful applicant will be in good physical health. This position is open to applicants of all genders.


Key Responsibilities
Plans, prepares, and carries out developmentally appropriate programs and activities 
•    Works as a team player in implementing daily activities – art, songs, games, stories etc. 
•    Conducts activities with children on an individual and group basis 
•    Follows assigned duties related to the daily routines (outdoor play, snack/lunch, rest time, toileting, etc.) 
•    Supports cultural aspects of programming and employs ʔayʔaǰuθəm words and phrases to the best of their ability 
•    Complies with program policies and procedures 



Monitors children’s safety and well-being
•    Ensures every child’s development needs are met and works collaboratively with the Indigenous Supported Child

Development (ISCD) team, as needed, in doing so.
•    Reads and respects any ISCD individual plan for a child in their program
•    Maintains constant supervision of the children in indoor/outdoor activities and during rest periods 


•    Ensures guidance, discipline and behaviour expectations are consistent 
•    Attends to children’s physical needs while applying good hygiene practices and keeps program facilities and equipment          safe and clean 


Fosters open communication with families/caregivers and other team members, documents, and maintains records as directed
•    Welcomes and greets all parents and children daily
•    Communicates child’s progress with parent/caregiver and any needs or concerns discerned
•    Communicates program activities to families
•    Orients families into program when designated to do so
•    Maintains program records – attendance, communication log, child observations, incident reports, etc.
•    Signs-in and out accurately every work day
•    Submits accurate timesheets on time
•    Submits leave requests within the required timelines
•    Communicates absence to manager before scheduled start time



Supports all early childhood programs and initiatives and performs other related duties as required 
•    May be required to attend meetings
•    May be designated to attend professional development training 
•    May provide direction to ECE I workers, summer students, and/or volunteers
•    May mentor practicum students



Supports the team to meet the requirements of Childcare Program Licensing 
•    Abides by provincial child care regulations
•    Works within the ECEBC Code of Ethics
•    Abides by Tla’amin Nation early childhood policies and procedures
•    Maintains confidentiality of all information related to the program’s children, families, and staff
•    Reports any concerns or issues to the manager related to program delivery, child well-being, and licensing regulations.


Qualifications
Education, Training, and Experience
•    Completion of a recognized Early Childhood Education
•    Previous work experience in a licensed childcare program would be an asset
•    Knowledge of ɬaʔamɩn culture and ʔayʔaǰuθəm preferred
•    Individuals with Indigenous ancestry preferred.
•    Successful Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector screening
•    Recent TB test
•    Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License and acceptable Driver’s Abstract would be an asset
•    First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain
•    Food Safe certification, or willingness to obtain



 Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
•    Working knowledge of children’s developmental stages from 0 to 6 years of age
•    Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
•    Ability to follow directions
•    Ability to work as a positive, flexible, and supportive team member
•    Strong teaching skills
•    Good organizational and time management skills
•    Knowledge of group process and facilitation
 
Working Conditions
•    Work hours are generally Monday to Friday 8:30 to 4:30 with a one hour paid lunch break.
•    Work will take place in either or both Tla’amin Nation’s Child Development and Resource Centre and či čuy ʔaye                      (Children’s House).
•    Following successful completion of the required probationary period, the employee becomes benefits eligible.

Additional Information 
All employees working for Tla’amin Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
