Educational Assistant (EA) Elementary School

Job Position Title: Elementary Educational Assistant (temporary, full-time)

Reports to: Elementary School Principal 

Start Date: As soon as possible

End Date: June 30, 2026

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

Student Support 

• Provide individualized or small-group support to students as directed by the classroom teacher or Principal. 

• Support students with diverse learning needs, including neurodiversity, language learning, and physical or developmental challenges. 

• Assist students with academic tasks, organization, and study skills. 

• Implement accommodations and strategies outlined in Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or student support plans. 

• Foster student independence, confidence, and self-advocacy. 

 Classroom Support 

• Assist the classroom teacher with lesson delivery. 

• Support classroom management and student engagement strategies. 

• Help maintain a positive, safe, and respectful learning environment. 

 Collaboration and Communication 

• Work closely with teachers, counselors, and principal to support student success. 

• Participate in meetings related to student learning and well-being when appropriate. 

• Communicate relevant observations about student progress or challenges to the classroom teacher or principal. 

• Maintain confidentiality regarding student information at all times. 

 Student Well-Being and Inclusion 

• Support students’ social-emotional development and sense of belonging. 

• Model respectful, inclusive, and caring behaviour. 

• Assist with behavior support plans when applicable. 

• Encourage positive peer interactions and relationship-building. 

 Qualifications and Skills 

• Post-secondary training in Education, Special Education, Child and Youth Care, or a related field. 

• Experience working with children or youth in an educational or support setting. 

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills. 

• Patience, empathy, and a student-centered approach. 

• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. 

 Preferred 

• Knowledge of diverse learning needs and inclusive teaching practices. 

• Basic understanding of assistive technology or adaptive strategies.
