ABOUT WILLIAMS LAKE FIRST NATION (WLFN)

The Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN), or the T’exelcemc (people of WLFN) have belonged to the Secwepemc (or Shuswap) Nation for over 6500 years. Today, the WLFN community includes a growing population of over 800 registered members who live on reserve in Sugar Cane, in nearby Williams Lake, BC, and across the globe.

POSITION

Reporting to the O&M Manager, the Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and equipment while ensuring compliance with electrical codes and safety regulations. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team to deliver safe, reliable, electrical services.

Employment Type

Full time, 40 hours per week

Probation Period

3 months from the date of hire.

Education Required

• Inter-provincial Journeyman Trade Certificate.

Experience Required

• Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience.

Overtime Status

Non-exempt.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and upgrade electrical systems in residential, commercial, and community-owned buildings.


2. Perform preventive maintenance on electrical equipment, generators, lighting systems, HVAC controls, and other electrical infrastructure.


3. Diagnose electrical faults using appropriate testing equipment and implement effective repairs.


4. Install new electrical wiring, conduits, panels, breakers, outlets, switches, lighting fixtures, and electrical components in accordance with applicable codes and standards.


5. Ensure all work complies with the Canadian Electrical Code, provincial regulations, occupational health and safety requirements, and First Nation policies.


6. Conduct inspections of electrical systems and identify potential hazards or required upgrades.


7. Assist with planning and completing renovation, construction, and capital improvement projects.


8. Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and other Operations and Maintenance staff to complete projects on schedule.


9. Maintain inventory of electrical tools, materials, and supplies; recommend replacement as needed.


10. Complete work orders, maintenance records, inspection reports, and other required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.


11. Build and maintain respectful working relationships with community members, leadership, and staff.


12. Provide courteous, culturally respectful service while working in occupied homes, community facilities, and administrative buildings.
