Job Description - Element Specialist

Element Specialist 


Location:  Whirlpool Adventure Course 


 


Summary 


This specialized role serves as the technical authority for the adventure course, responsible for maintaining the integrity, functionality, and optimal performance of WildPlay’s outdoor elements, adventure courses, and equipment. Providing technical guidance as , this position leads the park’s Tech Team and combines hands-on expertise in inspections and maintenance with strong leadership to uphold WildPlay’s rigorous safety and operational standards. 



Driven by a commitment to adventure, safety, and exceptional guest experience, this role takes ownership of routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and equipment repairs, while continuing to develop technical expertise. Working closely with Park Management, this position ensures all elements meet or exceed safety requirements and consistently deliver the seamless, high-quality experiences WildPlay is known for. 



Responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to: 



  • Exemplify the WildPlay Element Parks brand and support our model of the ideal guest experience 



  • Ensure site specific safety, inspections, maintenance, and risk management standards are maintained 



  • Ensure all element and gear inspections are being completed in a timely manner and not effecting operations 



  • In charge of overseeing technical team, ensuring tasks given are being completed in a timely manner and correctly 



  • Foster relationships and communication with others on the Park Management Team 



  • Develop and maintain tech team schedules 



  • Act as a safety representative ensuring Elements meet jurisdictional safety standards 



  • Performs and oversees routine and seasonal maintenance on all elements 



  • Leads by example, participating in operational duties, performing the role of Guide, Guide Team Lead, or other roles as /eligible 



  • Acts as the Manager on Duty when required 



  • Works closely and collaboratively with Assistant Park Manager & Park Manager to support the Element team and general park operations 



  • Conducts Element training when  in conjunction with Assistant Park Manager 


 


Required Qualifications and Skills 



  • Formal recreation education or equivalent experience in a management/leadership capacity 



  • Positive attitude with the ability to give and receive feedback 



  • Knowledge of risk management practices for high-risk activities 



  • Solid judgment and strong decision-making skills 



  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 



  • Able to manage multiple projects, adhere to budgets, and solve problems with attention to detail 



  • Strong technical abilities, including the ability to work with standard Microsoft Office applications, and to learn new software 



  • Experience working in a fast paced, hospitality, tourist-based environment preferred 



  • Previous, high performing, leadership and hands on operational experience in the Adventure Park industry highly valued 



  • Ability and desire to perform physically demanding work 



  • Current standard First Aid and CPR-C certification 



  • Successful completion of Element, Technical, and other relevant training upon successful employment 


 


Note: On-the-job training will be provided upon employment. 


 


Work Department 


The Element Specialist acts as a supporting ‘subject matter expert’ in Adventure Course equipment and operations. They report to both the Park Manager (primary) and to the Assistant Park Manager (secondary).  


Element staff, especially Tech Team members, will look to this position for guidance and support.  



Work Schedule 


This position is classified as seasonal with the position beginning in February and wrapping up in November. 
 


At times, this position may work a combination of part-time and full-time employment depending on the weather and the needs of the businessFull-time availability is required during the peak season, through the months of June-September. This includes working evenings, weekends, and holidays.
