About the Role
The Environment and Compliance Lead will report to the Environment & Security Manager and be part of a team responsible for development, implementation and continual improvement of Environmental field programs related to operations of the LNG Facility. The successful candidate will work closely with other functions within the organization including LNGC team members and contractors.
Externally, the successful candidate will liase with First Nations, Federal and Provincial Regulators and the local community. The role will be based in Kitimat, B.C.

You will use your expertise to:
- Work in a cross-functional team to execute the environmental requirements identified in management plans and procedures:
- Provide verification of compliance
- Advise and assist in executing field requirements and operational plans
- Oversee the ongoing improvement of environment monitoring programs, procedures, and management plans
- Ensure cross functional integration and understanding of permit and regulatory commitment, contribute as subject matter expert to training packages supporting learning and development team
- Oversee fisheries offset and wetland effectiveness monitoring programs, improvement opportunities, reporting and follow-up
- Oversee development and implementation of terrestrial and marine environmental research programs (water quality, fisheries offset effectiveness, receiving environment monitoring programs, air quality, contamination).
- Oversee and participate in audit and assurance activities to support verification of environmental data, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement
- Coordinate and oversee consultants completing on-site activities including various field monitoring, wildlife surveys, remediation activities, fish and amphibian salvage, vegetation surveys, etc.
- Participate in investigations for environmental incidents and support implementation of corrective actions
- Manage the compliance management system, working across the organization to support teams commitments and compliance activities
- Provide strategic direction on environmental commitments, objectives, planning, and strategy to LNG Canada
- Support Phase 2 with integration interfaces for construction and operational management plans
- Continuously assess and identify environmental risks and implement a structured work plan to effectively mitigate key risks
- Identify any permitting requirements and /or amendments and provide technical support to the Regulatory and Permitting Lead
- Lead engagements and relationship with regulatory agencies, undertake routine engagements with government regulatory agencies to resolve regulatory compliance issues.
- Support External Relations during engagements with external stakeholders including but not limited to First Nations and government organizations.
- Share compliance data, risks and improvement plans in a concise way to LNGC Leadership Team
- Provide technical input to routine joint venture partner reporting and engagements on environmental and regulatory risks/mitigations.
- Undertake quarterly engagements with environmental non-governmental organizations to ensure a clear understanding of environmental mitigations and safeguard LNGC’s reputation.
- Undertake routine engagements with Legal to ensure that environmental and regulatory risks are clearly understood and mitigated from a Legal perspective
- Participate in the Project incident management team as the Environmental Unit Lead.
- Communicate and apply environmental/regulatory lessons learnt from other international LNG projects and operating assets.
- Manage the overall Environment and Regulatory team comprised of secondees, LNGC direct hires and contractors (9 x FTE’s).
- Manage environmental budget, set annual budget and monitor spend to maximize value
- Contract Holder for the LNGC Environmental Services
- Review and comment on scope / budgetary proposals from contractors
- Initiate scope development based on required environmental works
- Lead an effective environmental team and compliance lead
To be successful, you will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science/engineering.
- Certified environmental practitioner or equivalent
- Understanding of BC Provincial Environmental Regulations relating to an LNG facility
- Understanding of Federal Regulations relating to an LNG facility
- Experience in writing and executing environmental monitoring plans
- Experience in compliance management systems and environmental management systems such as ISO 14001
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in oil and gas and LNGC, understanding of key environmental and regulatory risks for such facilities
- Experience with fisheries, water quality, effluent management, waste, and wildlife
- Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills to work effectively in and across multifunctional teams and interface with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to work under pressure
- Excellent leadership, coaching and mentoring skills.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills towards building relationships in a dynamic, integrated, diverse/multi-cultural environment
