Job Description - Environmental Coordinator/Monitor

Reporting to the Project Manager, the responsibilities of the Environmental Project Coordinator/Monitor include:



  • Develop and implement Environmental protection plans, with relevant guidelines, project specifications, and other documentation;

  • Prepare necessary documentation to obtain required approvals, certificates, and permits for projects;

  • Participate in managing environmental issues during pre-construction, procurement, and delivery phases of the project, in accordance with contractual requirements, reporting, permitting, and licensing, as required;

  • Present on site to provide environmental monitoring during high-risk activities, as well as during non-critical work periods to perform field inspections, surveys, samplings, audits, etc., of project, specifically on activities with environmental impact, and assure activities, conditions, and outcomes correspond with the requirements of applicable laws and standards, contracts, Environmental Plan, and internal policies;

  • Review work procedures to verify compliance with all relevant specifications and legislation;

  • Liaise with the Project team to provide technical advice to resolve issues that may adversely affect the environment, and make recommendations for improving environmental protections on site;

  • Ensure the Environmental Plan is adhered to across the project in accordance with contractual requirements and internal policies;

  • Participate in the monitoring(conducting, coordinating, auditing, and evaluation) of environmental aspects , including wildlife, excavated materials, impacted materials, waste management, erosion and sediment control, dust control, marine management, spill prevention and response, and sustainability objectives;

  • Prepare daily/weekly reports related to construction activities, compliance, and audits;

  • Participate in site meetings;

  • Assist in carrying out a variety of field duties at the job site related to project.






Requirements



  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Civil Engineering or Environmental Science program (or similar), or a combination of technical training and/or related experience;

  • Minimum of 5 years of industry experience in an environmental capacity;

  • Preference will be given to candidates with City of Vancouver permitted process;

  • Experience in civil works in an urban environment;

  • Experience in underground works is considered an asset;

  • Knowledge of federal and provincial environmental regulations and standards;

  • Knowledge of methods, approaches, and best practices related to environmental inspections and audits;

  • Experience with scheduling and planning site activities;

  • Excellent command of computer software including Microsoft Office Suite, MS Project, BlueBeam, AutoCAD, etc.

  • Bilingual (an asset), but proficiency in English language with excellent communication skills (written and verbal) is required.
