Equestrian Operations Support Staff Employment Type: Full-time
Queen Margaret’s School (QMS) is seeking to fill an Equestrian Operations Support Staff position to join our team of skilled, dedicated, and professional horse people.
Horses have been central to life at QMS for more than 100 years. For over 60 of those years, our Equestrian Program has supported the development of confident, capable riders who carry their skills, discipline, and character well beyond the arena. Our equestrian facilities are a valued part of campus life and student learning.
About the Role
Equestrian Operations Support Staff play a vital role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the Shirley Burr Equestrian Centre. This position focuses on the daily welfare and wellbeing of the horses, operational support for the Rider Development Program, and the overall upkeep, safety, and functionality of the equestrian facilities.
Responsibilities are assigned based on experience level and program needs.
Key Responsibilities
Stall and paddock cleaning
Ensuring horses are fed and watered at all times
Administering and supporting basic care for injuries, ailments, or medications as required
Handling horses safely in and out of stalls, paddocks, and turnouts
Preparing horses for rides, including grooming, blanketing, un-blanketing, and tacking
Assisting coaches and facilitators with operational preparation, implementation, and clean-up for Rider Development and Equine-Facilitated Wellness programs
Harrowing arenas using a tractor and rake harrow
Repairing broken boards, fences, and assisting with basic maintenance tasks
Supporting general equine-related duties as they arise
Preferred Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Working knowledge of a busy equine facility with 30+ horses
A positive attitude and strong “can-do” approach
Knowledge of equine safety practices and industry standards
Understanding of basic equine medical care, nutrition, and behavioural management
Ability to represent the QMS Equestrian Program in a professional, enthusiastic, and positive manner
Physical fitness suitable for manual labour, including lifting, bending, twisting, reaching, and carrying
Valid BC Driver’s License
Legal entitlement to work in Canada
Must have access to a reliable personal mobile phone and be reachable during scheduled working hours for operational communication and safety purposes.

Working Conditions
This role involves regular outdoor work and employees must be prepared to work in a variety of weather conditions, including heat, rain, cold, freezing temperatures, and occasional snow.
While some duties take place indoors, daily responsibilities extend beyond the barn and require comfort working outdoors year-round.
Reliability in all weather conditions is an essential requirement of this position.
