Job Description - Equipment Maintenance Technician

LOCATION: All Kasko Cattle yards


TERM OF WORK: Full Time


REPORTS TO: Facilities and Equipment Manager

JOB SUMMARY:


We are seeking a dedicated Equipment Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities and Equipment team. This position focuses on the daily servicing, preventative maintenance, and basic mechanical support of feed trucks, loaders, and other feedlot equipment. Reporting to our Heavy Duty Mechanic, this role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, values consistency, and takes pride in keeping equipment running smoothly. This position thrives on adaptability, requiring someone who can pivot quickly, embrace change, and stay effective in a fast-moving environment.

Kasko Cattle Co. is a family-owned custom cattle feeding and farming business with five feedlot locations in southern Alberta: the Home Lot and North Lot near Coaldale, HWY 52 + NFR near Raymond, and Sandy Hill near Taber. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist with diagnosing basic mechanical issues and support major repairs on all Kasko Cattle equipment from lawn mowers to heavy equipment, led by the Heavy Duty Mechanic.
• Keep accurate service logs using MaintainX, and report issues promptly.
• Monitor equipment for wear or potential malfunctions.
• Operate feedlot equipment safely and assist feeding teams as needed.
• Maintain shop organization, tools, and cleanliness.
• Follow health and safety procedures at all times.



KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:


The Equipment Maintenance Technician works closely with the Heavy Duty Mechanic to ensure all feed and loader equipment is serviced and maintained efficiently. This role collaborates daily with the feeding crew, equipment operators, and yard staff to coordinate equipment availability and respond to service needs. The technician may also liaise with the Parts and Inventory Coordinator, Facilities and Equipment Manager, and external vendors or service providers to support parts ordering and repair scheduling. Strong communication and teamwork are essential to maintain the smooth operation of feedlot equipment and minimize downtime.



EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:



  • Previous mechanical or lube technician experience preferred (agriculture or feedlot setting an asset)
    • Strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, and attention to detail
    • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
    • Valid driver’s license required (Class 1 or 3 an asset)


 


TRAINING:



  • On-the-job training will be provided

  • Additional training may also be provided



WORKING CONDITIONS:


The Equipment Maintenance Technician generally works 10-hour days, Monday to Friday, with some weekend work and occasional on-call hours as required. This position involves outdoor and indoor work, with time spent in the shop, equipment yard, and throughout the feedlot.


 


BENEFITS:


Full-time, permanent incumbents of this position are eligible for company benefits programs including health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance benefits, after three months of employment. Company paid pension plan benefits are available after one year of employment.


 


REMUNERATION:


Remuneration for this position is based on experience and quality of work. Incumbents of this position accrue 4% vacation which may be taken as paid vacation.
