Overview

The Senior ETL Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining database back-end and ETL applications for Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence solutions. This role involves building and expanding application functionality using high-quality code and appropriate patterns, ensuring scalability, compliance with standards, and adherence to best practices. The developer will also test, debug, and document software, while collaborating effectively within a development team and communicating professionally with clients.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain ETL applications and database back-end systems for Data Warehouse and BI solutions.
  


• Write high-quality code using appropriate patterns to ensure scalability and compliance with standards.
  


• Test and debug applications, ensuring proper documentation.
  


• Collaborate within a development team and communicate clearly with clients.
  

Mandatory Skills

• Experience with Microsoft technologies: Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake, Power BI.
  


• Experience with Databricks Platform.
  


• Experience with AWS technologies: Amazon Aurora, Amazon Relational Database Service, Glue, OpenSearch.
  


• Expertise in developing ETL programs for various data repositories (structured/semi-structured files, relational/multi-dimensional data stores).
  


• Ability to implement and maintain schedule/dependency logic for ETL scripts.
  


• Strong knowledge of data integration, cleansing, and analytics.
  


• Proficiency in data modelling and design principles for data marts and warehouses.
  


• Database management and administration experience.
  


• Ability to construct complex SQL queries and perform performance tuning.
  


• Experience with Git and source control strategies.
  


• Ability to create technical documentation (ETL source-to-target mappings, data model diagrams, architecture artifacts, detailed design documents).
  


• Experience in eliciting, documenting, and validating business requirements.
  


• Understanding of the software development lifecycle (Development, Testing, QA, Delivery).
  


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Knowledge of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and related standards.
  


• Experience designing dashboards to highlight trends and KPIs, and developing scheduled/ad-hoc reports.
  


• Familiarity with programming languages such as C# for developing application code (APIs, Functions).
  


• Experience writing scripts using PowerShell and other scripting languages.
