We are currently hiring a Boiler & Evaporation Swing Operator to join the team at our Goderich Evaporation Plant facility in Goderich, Ontario.

Compass Minerals’ Goderich Plant has operated since 1867, after an unsuccessful search for oil uncovered a vast bed of rock salt under Goderich. Using mechanical evaporation, the plant produces high-purity, fine- and coarse-grained salt products in packages and in bulk for commercial, agricultural, and industrial applications. The plant also packages rock salt from the mine that is used for deicing and water conditioning.

Goderich is named Canada’s Prettiest Town and is best known for its stunning sunsets. Goderich is a lakeside community of 8,000 people located approximately 1.5 hours from London and Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario.

How will you contribute to the team?

Reporting to the Boiler & Evaporation Supervisor, the candidate successful will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

• Maintains maximum Boiler Evaporation process efficiency by adjusting, reading, and interpreting gauges, indicators, and steam flow meters.


• Safely operates boilers, evaporation process and drying process to meet salt production demand.


• Controls Boiler Evaporation plant operations through use of electronic, pneumatic and mechanical controls.


• Observes various manual and electronic measuring devices and makes adjustments to the Boiler Evaporation process accordingly.


• Performs the chemical testing and treatment of boiler feed water.


• Maintains records and reports relative to Boiler Evaporation plant operations.


• Makes regular checks of plant equipment and makes adjustments, authorized repairs, and performs routine equipment service as required.


• Performs other related work as required.


• Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams, written orders, control gauges, manufacturer's operating instructions books, and to record Boiler Evaporation Plant Operation plant information.


• Ability to understand and follow complex oral or written instructions on proper plant operation, Skill in repairing and maintaining various types of equipment

What should you bring to the role?

• Preference will be given to candidates with 4th Class Power Engineering Trade Certification


• Previous experience working with computerized control systems, high pressure boilers, pumps, valves, chillers and cooling towers.


• Previous experience maintaining equipment in a heavy industrial manufacturing plant.


• Knowledge of food processing/manufacturing equipment

What is the work schedule 

• Monday – Thursday 10hr days, unless assigned to a 12hr. shift for relief purposes, as per the Collective Agreement.
