The Fabrication Process Specialist is responsible for the design, optimization, and continuous improvement of fabrication and CNC processes, as well as supporting new business through accurate quotations and technical expertise. This role works cross-functionally with Sales, Production, Quality, and Engineering teams to identify productivity gaps, implement process improvements, and drive operational efficiency using data analysis, hands-on observation, and industry best practices. Fabrication Process Specialist plays a key role in New Product Introduction (NPI), process standardization, and ensuring production meets quality, cost, and delivery targets.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
Post-secondary bachelor’s degree in an engineering field or technical diploma with equivalent experience.
Minimum 10+ years of experience in CNC programming, fixture design, tooling selection, CNC-based quotations, and leading process improvement and continuous improvement initiatives.
Proven experience in CNC quotation development and cost analysis.
Experience managing process optimization and continuous improvement projects in a manufacturing environment.
Strong knowledge of fabrication processes including CNC machining, cutting, milling, punching, and secondary aluminum finishing operations (e.g., anodizing, painting).
Knowledge of aluminum extrusion and its application to secondary operations is an asset.
Experience in material and product flow optimization, including identification and elimination of inefficiencies using Lean Manufacturing principles.
Experience with ERP/manufacturing systems (e.g., EPICS) is an asset.
Experience with change management processes and controls.
Experience managing and coordinating external vendors and suppliers.
Training and/or hands-on experience in:
Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies (e.g., PFMEA, Control Plans, 8D, Kaizen, Root Cause Analysis, Value Stream Mapping, Red-X, Genin Tsuikyu)
Project management
Development and management of process specifications and standards
CNC quotation processes
Strong technical capability including:
Ability to read and interpret 2D and 3D drawings, schematics, and GD&T
Experience with AutoCAD and 3D CAD software
Advanced knowledge of CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Edgecam, KeyCreator)
Experience with CNC equipment such as Haas and Mecal is an asset
Knowledge of aluminium extrusions as it applies to secondary operations.
Technical Skills/Competence
Strong command of English (written and verbal), including technical report writing.
Extensive knowledge of CNC processes, tooling selection, and fabrication methods including machining, cutting, milling, and punching.
Strong ability to read and interpret technical specifications, blueprints, and engineering drawings.
Solid measurement and mathematical aptitude with high attention to detail.
Proven problem-solving capability, including root cause analysis and implementation of sustainable corrective actions.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data to identify trends, analyze failure history, and drive improvements.
Advanced computer proficiency, including MS Office and advanced spreadsheet analysis.
Demonstrated project management capability, with a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
Ability to lead and support cross-functional teams in investigations, studies, and improvement initiatives.
Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across a wide range of roles and departments.
Highly self-motivated and results-driven, with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Effective time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

The expected salary range for this position is $75,000 - $90,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to, skills, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and business needs.
