Job Description - Facility Maintenance Coordinator

Who We Are


The Mikisew Cree First Nation (Mikisew) has lived on the ancestral lands of the Athabasca Delta and Wood Buffalo National Park in northeastern Alberta since time immemorial. The lives of our members are linked to the land and to a close understanding of traditions, history and a natural way of life. Many of our members live in the hamlet of Fort Chipewyan, and our traditional lands range over a large portion of Athabasca oil sands deposits.



Who You Are


Mikisew is currently seeking a Facility Maintenance Coordinator. The Facility Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and overseeing day-to-day maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of Mikisew-owned residential, commercial, and community properties. This role acts as the main point of contact for maintenance issues, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in a timely manner while maintaining accurate records and coordinating contractors, vendors, and internal staff. 



This position is based in Fort Chipewyan, AB


 


Roles & Responsibilities:


 



  • Receive, prioritize, and coordinate maintenance and repair requests

  • Schedule and oversee routine, preventative, and emergency maintenance

  • Coordinate contractors, trades, and service providers as required

  • Conduct regular inspections of properties to identify maintenance needs

  • Ensure work is completed to acceptable standards and within timelines

  • Track work orders, maintenance logs, and related documentation

  • Assist with budgeting, purchasing materials, and tracking maintenance costs

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements

  • Communicate with tenants, staff, and management regarding maintenance activities

  • Support property turnovers, move-ins, and move-outs as required

  • Report ongoing or significant issues to management with recommendations

  • Provide a scope of work on proposed renovations

  • Provide monthly reports

  • Manage and maintain inventory

  • All other duties as assigned.


 


Qualifications



  • High school diploma or equivalent an asset

  • Certification or training in facilities management, maintenance, or a related field is an asset

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in facilities maintenance, property management, or a related role

  • Experience coordinating contractors and service providers preferred

  • Knowledge of building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, general repairs) is an asset


 


Other Requirements



  • Possess a valid Class 5 AB driver’s license and own or access to a vehicle.

  • Willingness and ability to work after hours and/or weekends when required.

  • Willingness to submit to an Oath of Confidentiality.

  • Willing to work flexible schedule.

  • Must provide and possess a clear criminal record vulnerable sector check.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks

  • Basic computer skills (email, work order systems, spreadsheets)

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
