Job Description - Facility Operator | Ovintiv Events Centre

Overview

The Facility Operator will assist the Chief Engineer in the overall facility maintenance including the preparation and maintenance of the ice surface, automated building controls, HVAC, electrical systems, preventative maintenance programs, and general building repairs. Duties include, but are not limited to, the repair of machinery, performing preventive maintenance of HVAC and boiler systems and general equipment such as plumbing, electrical and refrigeration systems. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, computer and communication skills along with being able to work within a team environment. Minimum requirements include 5th Class Refrigeration Endorsement, Refrigeration Operator, or 4th Class Power Engineering ticket. This position can be physically demanding, and evening and weekend shifts will be required. Your ability to work with minimum supervision, perform duties in a safe manner, and consistently demonstrate efficient, effective use of time and resources will ensure your success.

This role will pay a salary of $54,080 to $87,360.

The Ovintiv Events Centre () operated by the Oak View Group () is the premier event facility providing a wide range of sports and entertainment opportunities for the Alberta and British Columbia Peace Region.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintenance and repair of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, chillers, refrigeration, boilers, and associated equipment.
  • Accurately maintain records of labor time, parts used, and work accomplished.
  • Performance of all corrective and preventive maintenance duties related to HVAC and building systems.
  • Perform all the duties outlined in a safe manner following established Facility Procedures, Occupational, Health & Safety Rules, and Violence in the Workplace policies and . Regulations, . WHMIS, .
  • Ability to use Windows based computer systems and experience with, Microsoft Office, Micromain, Reliable Controls
  • Supervise and direct operations part time staff and monitor performance of assigned responsibilities.
  • Respond immediately to emergency situations (fire, evacuation, equipment failure, and customer concerns.
  • Comply with departmental policy for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials. Maintain a clean and safe workplace.
  • Ensure the availability of an adequate operating inventory of tools and supplies. Specific duties include but are not limited to preparing and submitting purchase-order requests, developing sources for stock materials, and performing periodic checks for supplies.
  • Assist the operations department as required with event preparation and event needs.
  • Responsible for filling out daily check list and safety inspection reports of equipment.
  • Perform arena maintenance such as painting, drywall repairs, housekeeping, cleaning outside grounds, and various other tasks.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team.
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of working experience 
  • 5th Class Power Engineer ticket with Refrigeration Endorsement, Refrigeration Operator ticket, or 4th Class Power Engineering or Higher.
  • Experience in building maintenance of HVAC and/or related building systems.
  • Experience with direct digital controls and variable frequency drives a plus.
  • Knowledge of boilers, chillers and refrigeration required.
  • Must possess experience with large, water-cooled chiller systems, ice machines, water filtration and gas-fired equipment.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented with ability to handle multiple assignments.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, days, evenings, overnight, weekends, holidays, extended (long) workdays and extended numbers of days.
  • Must have valid WHMIS ticket or be willing to obtain the first 3 months of employment.
  • Must have valid First Aid ticket, trained in CPR and AED’s or be willing to obtain in the first 3 months of employment.
  • Ability to lift 40lbs and climb ladders/work from heights, must be able to be fitted for respirators, and have experience with hand and power tools.
  • Able to work independently and under minimal supervision.
  • Proven record of excellent internal and external customer service.
  • Ability to use an ice resurfacer (Zamboni) and perform maintenance to arena ice.
  • Desired to have working knowledge of operations equipment including staging, audiovisual, lighting, truss, rigging, small equipment tools, pallet jacks, forklifts, ice resurfacer, edger’s etc.

Employees will occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 lbs. Employee will also use close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjust focus.
  •   Work environment:

  • The essential functions of this position are performed both indoors and outdoors in the weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environments is usually moderate to loud.
