Location of Work: Remote locations throughout British Columbia (near Golden, Revelstoke, Valemount)


Employee Type: Seasonal, casual part-time from late November to late April


FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Overview


The Family Adventure Leader (FAL) is responsible for planning and implementing an activity and recreation program for youth booked on CMH Family Adventure trips.


The FAL’s role is to organize the daily tasks and activities for youth of all ages to participate in and learn from. With a balance of time spent working alone or with other members of the lodge team, the FAL plays a key role in the hiking, skiing, and lodge family adventure programs.


With a strong understanding of guest expectations balanced with teamwork and excellent organizational and communication skills, the FAL will be the “go-to” expert in the lodge for all the youth activities.  This role is worked as an 11-hour split shift each day.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Plan and execute a variety of indoor and outdoor activities that will create memorable mountain experiences.

  • Organize a daily schedule that aligns with the needs of the lodge.

  • Strong time management skills to keep youth engaged and focused on activity schedule.

  • Creatively adapt program needs to support a variety of ages.

  • Develop trust and a strong professional relationship with parents of the FAL participants.

  • Have a fun and welcoming approach to youth leadership and group management.

  • Abide by OH&S and WHMIS standards and regulations.

  • Support guests in the field program, as needed.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Standard First Aid and CPR certification.

  • Clear Criminal Background Check.

  • Post-secondary education in recreation or youth development, preferred.

  • Trustworthy and self-directed in completing the core functions of the role.

  • Sees tasks through to completion including follow-up on any identified issues.

  • Passion for working with youth and developing meaningful programming.


Working Conditions



  • Able to lift, carry, or otherwise move and position up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis.

  • This job is in a remote area of British Columbia. Employees are required to find their own way to and from the lodge or helicopter staging area for work shifts.

  • Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on the needs of the business.

This position description is an overview of the scope of responsibilities for the role described above.  With the evolution of CMH, the responsibilities of this position may change, as may the details that are associated with many of the tasks. During these times of change, this position requires the flexibility and willingness to accept new responsibilities and potentially transfer others.


Compensation


A competitive daily rate will be provided, along with 4% vacation pay and potential opportunities to heli-hike or heli-ski, as available. Further details will be discussed in a personal interview.
