Family Law Clerk

A family law firm is seeking an experienced Law Clerk with at least three years of family law experience to join its team.

The successful candidate will support lawyers across a broad range of family law matters and will be comfortable managing files, communicating with clients and working independently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with family law matters involving separation, divorce, parenting arrangements, child and spousal support, and property division.


• Draft correspondence, pleadings, financial statements, affidavits, briefs and other court documents.


• Prepare and organize materials for conferences, motions, mediations, arbitrations and trials.


• Manage court deadlines, calendars and limitation periods.


• Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, courts and other parties.


• Request, organize and review financial disclosure and other supporting documentation.


• Assist with document production and preparation of disclosure briefs.


• Maintain organized electronic and physical files.


• Schedule meetings, court appearances, examinations and other appointments.


• Support lawyers with file management and general administrative requirements.

Qualifications

• At least three years of law-clerk experience, preferably focused on family law.


• Law Clerk diploma or equivalent education.


• Familiarity with Ontario family law procedures, court forms and filing requirements.


• Experience drafting family law documents and preparing financial disclosure.


• Strong organizational and time-management skills.


• Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.


• Ability to manage multiple files and competing deadlines.


• Comfortable working independently and collaboratively as part of a team.


• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal practice-management software.
