Job Description - Family Wellbeing Worker

Position Summary:


Wasauksing First Nation is accepting applications for a Family Wellbeing Worker. The Family Wellbeing Worker is a full-time position reporting directly to the Supervisor / Manager of the Child Wellbeing Team. The program will provide culturally responsive prevention support and services to families via the facilitation of participant-based activities, workshops, presentations and programming. The position will provide and promote a wide range of supports and activities to foster overall family and community well-being.


 


Job Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Implement programming such as preparation for parenting, preconception component, prenatal care and postnatal care.

  • Assess the need for support of children and families.

  • Coordinates client referrals to other community resources, such as elders, when appropriate.

  • Guides community services for children and their families, such as healthy babies, family wellbeing and prevention.

  • Operates in accordance with and ensures compliance to the Wasauksing First Nation Administrative, Finance and program policies and procedures as may be updated and amended from time to time.

  • Adheres to the Wasauksing First Nation Health and Safety regulations.

  • Adheres to strict guidelines and understands the nature of confidentiality.

  • Participates as a member of the Child Wellbeing multi-disciplinary team alongside Band Advocates, Band Representatives, Prevention Services, Community Caregivers and other Wasauksing First Nation departments as applicable.

  • Promotes and facilitates family-oriented activities and programs in a culturally relevant, safe and supportive manner.

  • Ability to prioritize and maintain confidential files and case notes as applicable

  • Advocates when necessary, on behalf of Wasauksing First Nation children, youth and families to internal and external collateral support services as needed to best support identified needs.

  • Designs, develops and prepares proposals for funding programs and services to enhance existing or new program ideas and visions.

  • Coordinates referrals to various internal and external support services as needed, examples may include educational, mental health or other related areas.

  • Liaise with other First Nations, program agencies and related organizations/institutions to network effectively to benefit the Wasauksing First Nation community.

  • Attend appropriate workshops, seminars and training opportunities as required or assigned to remain current on topics related to the position.

  • Self-motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills

  • The ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Manager

  • Adhere to all policies and procedures of Wasauksing First Nation and any other relevant policies and procedures from external agencies and partners.



Education & Experience:



  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (grade 12) or equivalent, an asset;

  • Community College Diploma in social services or related field, an asset.

  • 4 years’ experience in providing First Nation or other Anishinabe services, an asset.

  • Ability to speak, read and understand Anishnaabemowin (Ojibway Language) is an asset

  • Previous experience working with First Nation children , youth and families would be considered an asset

  • Knowledge of First Nation customs , culture and belief systems would be considered an asset.



Other Requirements:



  • Must have a proficient level of communication skills, verbal and written.

  • Must possess excellent organizational and time-management skills.

  • Excellent computer skills an asset.

  • Be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Child, Youth, and Family Service Act, the Child’s Rights, and the Indian Act.

  • General knowledge of community, customs and traditions.

  • Must possess a current and valid Driver’s License and dependable vehicle.

  • Provide a current CPIC



Training will be provided to the selected candidate.
