We're looking to expand our reach and impact by adding a dedicated Field-Based Robotics Application Engineer in California.

Role Overview

As part of our Applications and Technical Support team, this role is crucial for providing on-the-ground technical guidance, coordinating with technology partners, and actively participating in sales and business development initiatives with customers, integrators, and machine builders in the western United States and Mexico. The successful candidate will be a dynamic and customer-oriented engineer, ready to tackle technical challenges and contribute to the growth of Mecademic Robotics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert for customers and partners seeking a technical understanding of our solutions and how to apply them in mission-critical automation projects.

  • Provide on-site and virtual technical and training presentations to customers and partners.

  • Collaborate closely with the sales teams to understand customer environments and needs, ensuring actions and proposals are crafted to maximize success.

  • Assist customers in understanding how to optimally program Mecademic robots, and how to integrate them to automation systems based on PC-based languages (Python, C++, C#, Labview, etc), or PLC’s.  

  • Guide customers on how complementary technologies, such as vision systems, parts feeders, etc. can be used to enable key automated tasks.

  • Provide advice on the best end-effectors and gripping solutions for specific applications.

  • Handle technical queries and objections during the sales process, effectively communicating how product features translate into benefits.

  • Assist machine builders and integrators to develop technical proposals and quotations that align closely with customer specifications and business requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in automation control, computer science, mechatronics or similar field

  • 3+ years of automation or robotics engineering experience, ideally with customer-facing exposure

  • Possess technical knowledge of industrial robots or other related automation technologies suitable for customer projects

  • Programming skills in Python, C++ or C#, or other languages

  • Hands-on experience with tools; and knowledge of automation systems and components are desirable

  • Experience and knowledge of PLC’s (A-B, Siemens, Beckhoff preferred) is an asset

  • Prior experience working on automation projects in the medical device, electronics, optics and similar industries is preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to engage effectively.

  • Proven ability to work independently, demonstrating dynamism, autonomy, and initiative.

  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, planning, and organizational skills.

  • Familiarity with HubSpot or similar CRM and helpdesk support software is an asset.

  • Fluency in spoken and written Spanish is considered an asset for candidates.

Terms of the Position:

  • Type: Full-time position (40 hours/week).

  • Location: Field-based (remote) based in San Jose or the Bay Area, California, with travel to customer sites in the western United States (mostly California) and Mexico.

  • Remuneration: Competitive, based on candidate's experience.
