Job Description

  • Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to transport metals and scrap materials to designated areas within the plant.
  • Load and unload trucks, containers, and railcars, ensuring that materials are handled safely and correctly.
  • Safely maneuver heavy metal materials, minimizing the risk of accidents or damage.
  • Organize metal materials by placing them in appropriate storage areas based on their type, size, or weight.
  • Assist in unloading incoming scrap deliveries and preparing outgoing shipments.
  • Regularly inspect forklifts and other material handling equipment to ensure they are functioning properly and report any maintenance needs.
  • Follow all plant safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as gloves, a helmet, and safety boots.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and other staff members to maintain an efficient workflow within the plant.
  • Keep work areas clean and free of debris, ensuring a safe and organized working environment.
  • Record inventory, track material movements, and report discrepancies.
  • Support metal sorting, processing, and recycling activities as needed.
  • Comply with environmental guidelines for safe handling and disposal of materials.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Forklift certification (according to company or industry standards).
  • Previous experience as a forklift operator in a manufacturing, warehouse, or recycling environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and protocols in an industrial setting.
  • Ability to lift heavy loads and operate machinery for extended periods.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
