Full Time Senior Materials Technician (25042)

GEMTEC is a growing firm with offices throughout Atlantic Canada and in Ontario, and we are looking for a motivated and skilled Senior Materials Technician to join our Team. We currently have an opening for a Full Time Senior Materials Technicians in our Halifax, NS office.

The successful candidate will have the following:

Educational & Experience Requirements:

• Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field, is considered an asset.


• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in materials testing.


• Knowledge of relevant testing methods and procedures, including ASTM and CSA standards.


• CCIL certifications in testing of asphalt, concrete, aggregates, and soils.
  
  

Main Duties:

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in the following:

• Collect samples and perform laboratory and field testing of various construction materials, such as concrete, asphalt, soils, aggregates, etc., to determine material properties and quality.


• Testing of fresh concrete/grout/mortar and casting of laboratory specimens.


• Compaction testing of soil, aggregates, and asphalt concrete.


• Conduct inspections and assessments of construction sites, document findings, and provide detailed reports on test results, including analysis and recommendations, for use by project managers and engineers.


• Maintain effective communication with project teams, providing regular updates on field activities and findings.


• Ensure compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards.


• Maintain and calibrate testing equipment, ensuring accuracy and reliability.


• Ability and willingness to work under varied weather conditions.


• Adhere to health and safety protocols, promoting a safe working environment.
  


• Adhering to all company policies.


• Other duties as required.

Position:

• Full time position available.


• 37.5 hours/week (varies with client workload).


• The position is generally Monday through Friday, however successful candidates may be asked to work occasional evenings and weekends.


• Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle. The position is based in Halifax, NS, however occasional travel within the Maritimes may be required.
