Location: Toronto, ON
Schedule: Monday – Friday (2300 – 0700 hrs)
Pay Rate: $18.40/hour
Employment Type: Temporary
Averaging Agreement: Overtime is Averaging Agreement (AA) after 88 hours

Overview

The Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences was founded to meet the growing educational needs of health sciences professionals and provide continuing education for healthcare practitioners. Established in 1958, it combines classroom instruction with hands-on clinical experience in a teaching hospital environment. Security personnel at The Michener Institute play a vital role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors within this medical education facility.

Responsibilities

• Comprehend and adhere to The Michener Institute’s and Paladin’s security policies and procedures using a customer service–focused approach.
• Assist visitors and employees during emergencies, contacting appropriate emergency services as required.
• Conduct proactive patrols (interior and exterior) to identify safety hazards, policy breaches, and facility concerns.
• Monitor and maintain all security measures, ensuring systems and equipment function properly.
• Respond to alarms and emergencies promptly and professionally to minimize disruption.
• De-escalate crises and liaise effectively with emergency personnel including police, fire, and paramedic services.
• Provide First Aid and medical response as needed.
• Handle Lost & Found items and maintain related records per policy.
• Foster positive, constructive relationships with staff, students, and visitors by providing timely and professional assistance.
• Perform all other duties assigned by the Security Leadership Team or Client Representatives.

• Valid Security License for the province of Ontario
• Valid First Aid & CPR Level C from a WSIB-approved provider
• COVID-19 vaccination (two doses)
• Proof of up-to-date immunization records for Mumps, Measles, Rubella, Varicella, and two-step Tuberculosis skin test
• Willingness to complete N95 Mask Fit testing during training
• Successful Vulnerable Sector Check
• Fluent in English (oral and written)
• Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred
• Certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) required
• Legally authorized to work in Canada
