In a Nutshell: Reporting to an EMS District Chief, you will perform advanced emergency medical care and controlled acts under the direction of Base Hospital Medical Director; ensure the safe and timely land transportation of ill or injured persons including cross-border transfers; drive emergency vehicles safely in all weather conditions; maintain contact with and comply with direction from the Central Ambulance Communications Centre; liaise with other agencies to collect and provide relevant information; maintain ambulances, equipment, supplies, controlled drugs and stations in a state of readiness; complete required documentation; participate in mandatory training; function in a First Response capacity when and if required.

Conditions of Employment:
Successful completion of the paramedic physical fitness assessment
Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Search
Satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
Compliance with current communicable disease standards, as outlined by MOHLTC
Successful completion of Base Hospital Symptom Relief and Defibrillation certification
Valid documentation and suitability for allowable entry into the US for cross-border transfers
What We Are Looking For:
Meets all qualifications to work as an Advanced Care Paramedic in Ontario, as set out in the Ontario Ambulance Act and its Regulations, and as established by the County from time to time, including;
Graduate of an approved College Paramedic Program
Valid CPR certification - certified within the last 12 months.
A-EMCA certificate.
Valid Class F Driver’s Licence; good driving record and good driving skills;
Able to identify patient treatment needs and provide appropriate care;
Physically capable of lifting and carrying heavy patients and equipment;
Available to work all shifts, as scheduled, in a 24 hour per day, seven day per week operation;
Good interpersonal skills; able to communicate effectively; to work closely with the entire healthcare team;
Good teamwork skills; ability to work closely with a partner for extended periods of time;
Able to work in stressful situations and exercise sound judgment in emergency situations; critical thinker.
Hours of Work:
As per posted schedule, averaging 40 hours per week over a four-week period.
Salary:
A competitive salary range as outlined in the 2022-2026 Collective Agreement: $42.21 – $49.50 per hour, CUPE Local 2974.2
NEW Recognition: EWEMS wishes to recognize qualified and practicing paramedics from other regions, who are choosing to dedicate themselves in changing their primary work for Essex-Windsor EMS. New paramedics who can successfully verify previous active service will be recognized for both wage and vacation benefits upon hire (you do not have to wait for your probationary period to expire). *Subject to employment conditions and evaluation at the discretion of the Corporation.
