General Accountant

Ottawa | Hybrid

Hennessy Collective is recruiting a General Accountant for an established Canadian organization with operations across multiple provinces.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced accountant who likes being hands-on and having visibility across the full finance function. You’ll work closely with the Financial Controller, take ownership of key accounting activities and play an important role in keeping things accurate, organized and moving forward.

It’s a role for someone who knows their way around the numbers, but also isn’t afraid to ask, “Is there a better way to do this?”

What You’ll Be Doing

• Support the full accounting cycle across banking, AR, AP and general ledger.


• Play a key role in month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations and supporting schedules.


• Prepare and maintain accurate financial reporting and audit-ready working papers.


• Manage bank and balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.


• Support federal and provincial sales tax reporting and remittances, including GST/HST, QST and PST.


• Assist with internal and external audit requests.


• Help strengthen processes, controls and efficiencies across the Finance function.


• Provide backup to the Financial Controller and support the broader Finance team as needed.


• Contribute to special projects and Finance initiatives.

What We’re Looking For:

• Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance or a related field.


• 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience.


• Strong full-cycle accounting experience, including month-end close, GL, AR/AP, banking and reconciliations.


• Experience preparing balance sheet reconciliations, supporting schedules and year-end working papers.


• Experience in a multi-location or multi-provincial environment is an asset.


• Strong knowledge of ASPE.


• Comfortable working with ERP/accounting systems, Excel and financial reporting tools.


• Organized, detail-oriented and comfortable managing competing priorities.


• Someone who takes ownership, communicates well and enjoys being part of a collaborative Finance team.


• Intermediate to Advance level French is required
