Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.


 


Pensionable Salary Enhancement - Nurses in eligible classifications may be eligible to earn an additional $5.95/hour when working full-time hours within a prescribed six-month reporting period. (Effective April 1, 2025 – March 31st 2027.)


 


Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Manager, Health Services, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing professional registered nursing services for patients, including those with complex and unpredictable health needs. This position involves several components:



  • A key component of the position includes phone triage. The registered nurse needs to be able to respond to patient inquiries in a timely fashion, exploring details related to their disease process or concerns. The nurse needs to be able to appropriately prioritize the level of concern and involve the physicians as necessary.

  • Another significant component of the position involves providing education to patients and families about the disease process and the various medications used to treat the disease. This will involve formal one to one education sessions with patients and their families.

  • Nursing staff will also be expected to work in clinics with the physicians including reviewing medications, assessing changes in symptoms, possibly completing quantitative assessments, and providing relevant details to physicians.

  • Finally, the office work includes reviewing lab values, responding to abnormal values through the use of protocols in conjunction with the treating physician, reviewing relevant documentation, working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team and primary care providers to provide optimal treatment, and appropriately documenting same in the electronic medical record.

  • In general, the role has many components of case management which also involves strategizing, problem-solving, critical thinking, and empathic understanding of patient issues.

  • The role requires the nurse to respond to individuals with a wide range of needs, including those with significant physical, cognitive and emotional impairments.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to the vision, values, goals, and objectives of the region/facility/unit.

     


Experience


  • 6 months within the last 2 years recent related experience in an Adult AAC clinic setting required.

  • Recent related experience in using an Electronic Medical Record required, Accuro preferred.

  • Recent experience (within the last 2 years) in neurology required.


Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)


  • Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing education program required.

  • Successful completion of a relevant post-basic program may be required.


Certification/Licensure/Registration


  • Responsible for maintaining and providing proof of registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).

  • Active participation in professional associations e.g. Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.

  • Current BLS registration at the Targeted Responder Level is required.


Qualifications and Skills


  • Knowledge of:

    • College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses.

    • Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses.

    • Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).

    • Regional/Facility/Unit policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.

    • Nursing care knowledge related to clinical area.

    • Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts.

    • Roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team.

    • Principles of delegation.



  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking/problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to prioritize care for an individual patient or group of patients.

  • Ability to respond to a variety of simultaneous demands.

  • Ability to recognize and pursue self-development opportunities.

  • Ability to perform independently and as a member of the healthcare team.

  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations.

  • Ability to maintain concentration with frequent interruptions.

  • Ability to function in a demanding and stressful environment.

  • Proficient with computers, software programs, and applications such as Windows and Word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.


Physical Requirements


  • Moderate to heavy physical effort required.
