Job Description - Girls Program Coordinator (3-month contract)

The Women’s Centre of Calgary is a community organization that provides a safe and supportive space accessed by thousands of women and girls in Calgary. Our mission is to be every woman’s place for support, connections, and community. Specifically, we connect with women looking for assistance, for opportunities to connect and/or for ways to affect change in their community.
Position overview
The Girls Program Coordinator works collaboratively with other team members to create meaningful opportunities for young women and girls to develop leadership skills, build community, and explore issues that are important to them. Through group-based, multi-week programming, this position empowers young people to work for change in their communities, in alignment with the Centre’s broader goals.

Job duties
Organize and facilitate multi-week, group-based, developmentally appropriate programming in which participants can connect, build community and practice their leadership skills.
Build and maintain effective relationships with other organizations and community groups.
Utilize culturally appropriate, strengths-based practices to engage participants of diverse backgrounds.
Empower program participants with skills and guidance to action their ideas for projects and events.
Respond to critical incidents using assessment, planning, and de-escalation skills.
Ensure program statistics are collected and documented in a timely manner.
Actively participate in impact and evaluation activities.
Contribute to a positive work environment.
Contribute towards a culture of psychological safety.
Build effective relationships with clients, volunteers, and supporters of the Centre.
Participate in activities related to equity, diversity, and inclusion as well as Truth and Reconciliation.
Required qualifications
Diploma or undergraduate degree in Social Work or Child and Youth Care. A combination of experience and education in a related area will be considered.
Registration and membership in good standing with a regulatory body (if appropriate).
2+ years of experience working with children and/or youth.
Experience facilitating group programming for young people.
Knowledge and expertise of social and developmental issues related to young women and girls.
Basic assessment and safety planning skills.
Problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
Line of communication and accountability
Reports to: Team Lead, Community Development
Working conditions and physical requirements
The Women’s Centre is a storefront community center operating in an open environment. This role will require attendance and participation in off-site meetings and events in the community. This position requires evening and occasional weekend work.

Child Intervention Record, Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector checks required.
